Re: Show us your boat card
KISS....sized them so 10 would fit on a page then waterproofed them with Avery 8665 full page labels.

Look...the Internet is a great tool but sailing to me is about not being overly dependent on social media.
I did have FB for a few weeks until I saw the dependency people have on it. For me, it was a turn off. I really don't want to know what you ate for lunch.
I ran into a former Microsoft gentleman last week on the hard. He inquired as to my journey so far, going south. He asked about my navigation equipment. He was astounded that I had no chart plotter, tablet or iphone. He said..."Good gawd man...get into the 21st. century". I assured him that the 20th was just fine. Here's a wake up call...don't tell anyone but I have a Kerosene lantern onboard and not all my lights are LED's yet.
For me...I see texting zombies where ever I go. No one wants to talk anymore. I question my son about this. He tell me it is easier to text. I tell him that you press fewer buttons on the phone with a person to person call. We're quickly becoming a society of detached people.

plastic ones would be good but paper ones attract tropical bugs.

Re: Show us your boat card
turnover rate for tp is a lot quicker than for boat cards. i dont use boat cards but some have given them to me and those dont get much use. i stow em in plastic baggies but they still get lil bugs and mites inside the baggie...so they dont stay on board anymore.
folks want to get in touch with me know how to make contact

We purposely stay off facebook, privacy these days is very limited. Info on the net never goes away and one day ito comes back to haunt you.

You can actually join with a "die in an hour" email address without giving out a single piece of personal info. Then with any old user name and keep track with many new found friends you'd otherwise loose touch with.

I have no desire to add "strangers" to my Facebook. So an email and phone number on a boat card will do me fine.
This thread reminds me that I must try to get the email for my boats domain working as I would prefer an email associated with that to be printer when I ever get around to creating a card

Re: Show us your boat card
I like technology that I use. I dislike technology that uses me. This is why I stay away from things like Facebook.
As I mentioned earlier, when we receive a boat card I simply scan it into my iPad card app. It's a simple database with OCR tools that can store images, as well as other info I put it. It's a lot easier that storing all those paper cards, and b/c it's searchable, I can quickly find the entry for a boat that looks familiar.
