Search for 1st mate keeper

Not sure how to find her, but thought this might be the right place. Before going to detailed, any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

Where do you want your first mate kept? I keep mine in the house. She stays there unless she needs to run errands, go to work etc.

If there are any outdoor sports you enjoy, participating in them is one place to look. Key is that how you search should give you pleasure. My opinion is that it is easier for women who are already inclined to outdoor activities to adapt to sailing than it is for the long, polished fingernails type of female.

Overall compatability is a major issue and should be there with a keeper.

Jim found me on another sailboat, where I was regular crew, and charmed me away from the other skipper.

If you're already a sailor, finding someone you like who is also a sailor is a plus, I am told.

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

I think there's a site called "Single sailors seeking soul mates" or something like that. Maybe on Face Book?

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

I found mine in the boatyard where I was hauled out. She had just bought a boat. That was 22 years ago.

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

Although I'm happily married for quite some time, a cat can be a good substitute for most things and the maintenance costs are quite lower.

Ps: my wife agrees. She says she would get a dog next time. More space in bed and less snoring would be heaven.

Take your cat for walks (rewards may be needed for leash training,) women will wonder the story behind what they see.....

Oh don't worry. I closed my account three years ago and I'm a sys admin which should make me keen to accept social networks and other new age stuff... Not so with FB.

I got in trouble more than once with my female students posting their half naked pics on my wall. Wife wasn't a bit amused so I decided to close the whole thing.

Trust me, you're not loosing that much.

If you have a cat, be happy.

I remember once reading the adventures of a sailor online. I can't remember the guys name but he used to work for nasa and participated as a IT programmer in the Apollo missions. Anyway, the guy retired pretty early with his pockets full of money and decided to sail around the world. From time to time, you could tell by his writings that he felt lonely and wanted female company. In his case, his problem was that he kept thinking that women would only be interested in his money so he basically shut them off immediately. Kinda controversial wanting to find actively his better half and closing himself off being afraid that women might find his wallet more attractive than himself. Personally I don't agree. We seek looks and later on a mind that connects to ours and women first seek security before anything else and in our society, money is security.

Doesn't mean poor fellows like myself don't get lucky but it's easier for the more... "Secure" guys

Anyway, by my limited experience (I'm 39), the more you seek company, the more desperate you appear and the more you distance them.

Don't force it finding company and don't pretend you're something you're not.

Obviously you won't find your mate on your couch (well, except the cat) but don't try to find her in places you usually wouldn't go.

You like sailing, try to find her at a sailing club, boat show or something sailing related. Unless you have common ground to talk about, it's not going to last.

Finally... Easy come easy go. I married the girl that I had to fight for the most. If it was hard for me, it would be hard for the other guy too

Just relax and enjoy the life without strings.

Regards
Tony

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

I have to agree, the harder you look the more desperate you seem. I met my fiancé roughly 15 yrs ago on an Internet dating service. I had a boat and a dog and if the person responding had issues with that, I knew it wouldn't work long term. She appreciated the honesty. We now have two dogs and she wants to go cruising. It would be better if we were a few years younger but we'll take what we can get.

In short, find someone who truly likes boating and cruising. I knew a poor gent whose lady told him how much she liked sailing, until they got married. Then she would have none of it. So sad.

Don't give up. I'm 65 yo and getting ready to be married for the first time. Hey I'm a geologist that watches rocks grow, patience is among my middle names.

Rich
