Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

Johnny, I'm kind of in the same boat as you, no pun intended. And in my mind, one of the key things (for me) is getting back into racing. As there are a LOT of female sailors in that community. Which was a nice place to go "shopping" as it were.

Also, you're looking for free spirits, typically. Gals who aren't overly concerned with convention, aka a keeping up with the jones's lifestyle. I think Jamws Wharram had the corner on the market on that one!
Plus gals who are used to thinking, & or living "outside of the box" are going to more easily adapt to the sailing lifestyle, & likely deal better with some of the amenities of living on land which it lacks. But are more than made up for, by the unique rewards which it has to offer.

And I have no idea how well it works, but there's a site called FitnessSingles. Where folks list their primary fitness activities, sailing being one of them. Can't imagine it'd hurt to try it, knock on wood.
There are also plenty of other social networking sites as well, many of them targeted towards various activities. Sailing being one of them.

Re: Search for 1st mate keeper

It is easier to find a mate online the younger you are. There are a few free dating sites but over 40yo it is slim pickings just because younger people accept it as a way to meet a partner. I am in a similar boat, pardon the pun, in that I want to work on my sailing skills for the next year meet a pretty lady and buy a boat, then island hop the pacific. I wonder if it is better or worse to lay all your cards on the table. My personal ad would go something like this. My screen name is meant to be ironic by the way.

Hey ladies, I'm 33yo and I have a passion for long term sailing. If you don't know how to sail that is ok. Let's try it out together. Let's date for a year and sail together. I have a paid for boat and we split expenses if we do some long term cruising. It might cost us $12,000 per year. I'm a frugal sailor, just imagine some tropical island hopping for $6k per year! You can't live on land for that price and you just might find the love of your life and a passion for the sea.

That's what is in my mind. The problem is the women who respond are just as crazy as we are. There are at least a few women who would take you up on cruising for $6k per year. That is my budget. Make sure you date for a year to really know each other and do some coastal cruising. I am frugal while on land so I will be frugal at sea. I even have a marina picked out in Thailand that charges $6 per month for a slip, that is based of the advertised internet price. Things could be different in real life but hell, have an adventure and find out.

So what you're saying, to borrow a theme from the movie "Chill Factor"; is, to create a "piece of bait" (you) so perfect, that your target is overwhelmed by it's pre-progammed genetic code, to take the bait.

That basically sums it up. A Mercedes key chain with a Mercedes to back up helps though [emoji14]

Just remember boys. It's Ladies Choice. Catch a woman with bait and suffer the consequences. If a woman is interested in you, she'll find a way to let you know. Then you'll stand a chance to find happiness.
