Sea of Cortez water snake ?

Sorry for the poor picture quality

I have not been able to ID the snake shown in the two pictures on this page:

Why is there a snake on the rudder ? (Sven)

The pictures would have been better if we hadn't worried that it might be poisonous ? It did make us think twice before jumping in the water after that and that's why I'd like to know what it might be (aside from just wanting to know everything ).

Interesting little critter. . . . Could be a color variation of the yellow belly sea snake. But those are usually solid black on top and bright yellow on the belly.

I hope we have a resident herpetologist here on CF who can weigh in.

EDIT: I recall it's CF member CaptForce who has a herpetology background. . . . If he doesn't stop in here in a day or two, you could message him.
