Re: Sea of Cortez video

Which Mavic Pro did you use? Presumably the Zoom?

p.s. oops, I see the Pro is the one with the Hasselblad, is that right?

Re: Sea of Cortez video

Standard Mavic Pro, no zoom. Got it a couple months after they first came out. Is the camera a Hasselblad? I did not know that. Proof of Ulmann's Razor.

Re: Sea of Cortez video

WOW! Mike you have so many spectacular and beautiful shots in there, I did not want those drone shots to stop. Your wife is right, in fact I'd say it should be longer! As the son of a photojournalist I got to witness how much goes into getting the shots and how much ends up on the cutting room floor and in your case, I'd sure like to see the cutting room floor too! That shot of the whales a mile off that you zoom in on, where nothing is visible at first, that one especially is brilliant. I'd love to see that morph into an "Over Baja" documentary, much like the "Over California" or "Over Italy" movies commercially available.
Do you mind if I ask what that music is? You had some excellent choices IMO.
Have you done any shooting out at the Channel Islands too?

Near as I can tell, if the lens is rectangular, it is the Hasselblad. In any case, you've certainly inspired me to get serious about making the trip down to the SoC, so thank you so much!

Don’t do it! The crime in Mexico is terrible, you never know when you’re going to get pillaged and raped. Danger danger! Be safe, stay away!

Well, if you put it that way, I'll have to extend the time I stay there.

Re: Sea of Cortez video

Mike,
Can you share a little info your 46' custom catamaran? Sorry if I'm off topic.

Re: Sea of Cortez video

I’ve been adding data in the Caribbean and Great Lakes to a new free APP, Zulu waterways,
https://www.zuluwaterways.com/map/41...70729759093365

I see there is no data for your cruising grounds. If you were so-inclined, you could post information to help the rest of us.

Biggest wind and waves we've ever encountered in the SOC was on the second day of a "Norther".
40 knot wind, 15 to 20 feet seas, breaking and at times, coming from 3 directions on a several hour daysail South from San Evaristo to Isla Ispiritu Santo.

OTOH, it was 85 degrees F. and sunny, and the Monitor was steering.
(Lord Nelson 35.) We got pooped a few times.

So yeah, there's wind but it's usually light. Bring a chute.

Re: Sea of Cortez video

And square waves! Pretty much going either straight upwind or straight downwind.

The music is the free stuff offered on YouTube for use in videos. Your comments have planted a seed. If I ever get some time I will go back and add some of the shots that did not make it and take out some of the cuts! I edited in Shotcut, an open source editor, and am hoping that someone adds a way of adding scrolling titles soon.
Never really got a chance to shoot at the Channel Islands as the boat was in Mexico when we got the drone, but what a great venue!

As my wife and I were watching the video for the first time we were laughing about that. Thing is, I generally don't fly the drone if there is wind over about 10 knots as it gets a little dicey landing the thing on our deck. So you get the impression that there is no wind in the Sea. Fact is we were able to sail about half the time we were there, often in very sporty conditions. In the winter there are no shortage of days when the wind is 20+.
