Sailing south from the Kimberlys before the cyclones

Hi to all. I don't know much about crusing the west coast. Are there any articles out there or poeple that could give me some advice?

I will be leaving cairns beginning of may and was going to head to darwin and then to the Kimberlys hoping to find a southern spot off the cyclone belt ( not to far south though) or a good bolt hole further north. I have until June next year ands would love to see WA.
