The second half of Aug is usually a good time to find decent weather windows for the passage.

I wouldn't recommend leaving the 16th
You will be near Coos bay on the 18th
If you do decide to go I would stop in Coos bay and wait for a couple days for better weather after the 21st
This is just the winds just south of Coos bay.
With 4 to 5 meter swells

Man, YOU have to do ll this homework YOURSELF, or you'll never make it.

I went uphill two summers ago, Aug 8 - Sept 18, 2016. Lot of resources YOU MUST know about.

I've posted our log (with charts) here:

Stu it was a Lot nicer two years ago this year is a weird one for sure.

But I agree he should ask for resources to look for and do his own homework on the trip

I was truly lucky, a good year for sure. I know that, both before (during the trip I kept saying: "We can't be that lucky!", except for the entire week in Fort Bragg, with everyone else, including the fisherfolk) and since. Very helpful people. Two year anniversary of the trip, now enjoying the Gulf and San Juan Islands.
