I bet they were snow blind and had no idea they were on a Oil Rig... They probably thought they had just climbed an iceberg...

And of course the Green Peace Ship they had taken a walk-about from didn't realize it had actually entered Russian Territorial Waters because no one had put up a floating sign indicating they were in Russia.
