well, I've had to climb up and smack the bloody crosstree back into line after a knockdown - the only thing you can infer from that photo is that the boat aint being maintained

Brings up a good point, why aren't the ends of spreaders vertically secured to stays? So much for standing on them for a better view!

It looks like the spreader may be fractured. Take down the mast and have a look.

Ours are positively clamped to the shrouds. Mains, upper and lower spreaders. Mizzen spreaders too.

Foot of the pictured spreader is probably broken or buckled. Zoom in looks bent outboard of the socket.

Looks like it's taken a heavy downward force. There's a distinct kink close to the mast and what appear to be remnants of the top of the spreader tip on the shroud.
