QL water heater and pump issues

Any bright sparks solved this issue?

After a rough trip in a lot of sea I've lost the water supply from the taps. Cold runs fine but turn the taps to hot and nothing - not a drip. I've primed the pipes and no blockage. The QL tank has water in it. Somehow the jabsco water pump has stopped pumping hot but not cold. Am I missing something ?? The pump isn't responding on demand for hot but cold it works fine. Not sensing a pressure drop?

Just a guess but most systems have a check valve entering the water heater and I'm guessing yours is stuck/clogged so no pressure goes into the hot side... easy to check and test

One other thing to check is if there is a valve on the outlet of your hot water tank that somehow got shut off during the passage. But I think Scott's answer is the most likely. You may also have a manifold with valves and a separate line leading to your hot water tank (calorifier).

There's no check valve. All I seem to have is a safety release valve. There's no visible blockages. The cold water pump responds but the hot water doesn't respond to the pressure drop. Is there something in the water pump ?

Draw out a diagram of your water system, post it here and we may be able to give you better advice.

Re: QL water heater and pump issues

There's definitely no blockages or air leaks in the system. Hot water is in the tank. I can flush it through to the taps using the shore based hose. All I can think is that the pump no longer recognises the pressure drop on the hot water side. Perhaps as the flow is less than the cold. Cold still works fine.

Try a new pump?

Does the Aquatech freshwater pump contain an impeller that could be shot? I've flushed through water again and again and no air blockage

The pump technically is able to run dry but it could have done so for a day.

I had a similar problem with a caravan. Could be that you pump is activated by a switch on the tap and not by line pressure drop.

Re: QL water heater and pump issues

Loosen the water hose where in enters the QL tank. If water flows from the hose then the problem is downstream from there. Try the outlet of the tank, then the inlet to the tap.

If water doesn't flow from the loosened hose, then work back upstream toward the pump. Somewhere there is a blockage.........

It just sounds like you have to understand your system. By the time you draw it out, draw in all the valves To answer our questions, you will guess the problem. So far we are not sure if one pump serves both hot and cold systems.
