Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

Today I updated page on Wikipedia named

Accumulated cyclone energy

new paragraph added

West Pacific ACE [ edit]
For the current 2015 season, the calculated ACE index as of 06:00 UTC on October 23 is 326.4575 ACE units according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and 426.6875 ACE units according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The difference in the values results from one agency reporting higher wind speeds than the other.
The 2014 calculated ACE index based on data from JMA was 202.955. Therefore, compared to 2014, the current JMA ACE index is already 61% higher despite two remaining months to go in the 2015 season.

........

Translation 2015 has seen by far the highest number of strong typhoons in recorded history. There is a new dynamic in play and everyone should be prepared to go to extreme lengths to prevent damages to life and vessel.

Great stuff!
When you say "new dynamic".
..do you mean 'sea temperature'?

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

That data is a little surprising (not doubting its veracity) cos the few predictions that were available a year ago was for fewer but maybe bigger typhoons in PI, fewer in HK and more in Eastern Pacific and Japan. Quite pleased my trip from Aus to HK was aborted.😀🙏

Re: Possible loss of sv Europa"?

From what I have seen there were 30 typhoons in 2014, 35 (so far) in 2015, and 52 in 2013. May be tropical storm totals if my memory is flaky.

Philippines so far is about two below its usual annual average of about 14?

Doesn't seem to be an exceptional year in any way really, let alone 'historic'.

Condolences on the loss of your friends Pelagic. It really sucks (I lost 5 friends one night in a car crash, when a coach ran into them and the fuel tank blew).
