Re: Politics. Or Not please

So here's the thing, freedom of speech means that sometimes you are going to be offended. This is especially true in the hypersensitive world we live in today where the new badge of courage is claiming aggrieved status.

If it really bothers you that much, do what I do. Turn the page.

Getting bent out of shape by words on the internet isn't cruising

Cheers

Re: Politics. Or Not please

I look at a fair amount of posts on every subject here and I don't see any politics. And I love to debate politics but I disagree with your assessment. Nice swipe at us Americans down South though! I applaud your effort.

Were you really? Lucky you. I was halfway through Grad school before I realized that most of my education to date was fudging facts and making generalizations so I could at least grasp the concepts without having to drown in the details. Then began the long tedious exploration of primary sources to discover that we've been fed a whole lot of assumptions and best guesses and the facts were few and far between. And I have no problem with that...its necessary to the learning process. But it sure makes you want to get into fights and start swinging it around when you finally come across a topic you actually know something about.

And that, I posit, is the actual problem. Education-fueled testosterone rants. I've come to the conclusion that it's so much better to just argue over anchors with other tyros...

Re: Politics. Or Not please

There are a lot of threads I dont read because they dont interest me. Feel free to do the same.

It's nice to discuss politics with mainstream people here. Political forums attract radicals and dont represent the average person.

And how long ago was that? I have learned to let my political view points stay where they belong, away from here.

Thank you for allowing me to show that we all can change for the better.

Yes, the anchor threads are good. Global warming was a hot one also. Pun intended.

Re: Politics. Or Not please

The comment that started this thread was someone calling California, Kalifornia the home of communists.

I am a Canadian but I found this comment to be made to incite others to anger.

I don’t expect others to comment on Canadian politics or Western Alienation in Canada. I don’t post about that or make snide comments on posts from those I know are from other parts of Canada.

At one time I did. I confess I would make comments written from the anonymity of a keyboard. I try to be more respectful in my comments theses days and ask the same from others.

Political forums also attract people who just want confirmation of their own particular views, and don't want to necessarily have them challenged. Such forums produce echo chambers, which isn't much different than just turning on the news.
