Perkins temperature gauge u/s

Disconnect the sensor wire at the gauge connection and hand trace it, if you can, to the sending unit. You said grounding at the gauge made it show hot but grounding at the sensor showed nothing.

Either you are on the wrong sensor or the wire is broken or disconnected.

Thanks for all the help. Problem fixed. Did not realize on a Perkins M30, there are two temp sensors.i did not see the one behind the alternator. After 30 hours, it took 2 sec to connect the loose wire. I spent all the time with the sensor on top, which is the alarm.
