I dont want to offend anyone here. Its a genuine question. So.....

I note that no one dies anymore they all PASS. Is that just a north american thing or is it a convention on this forum or??

For example When I talk about my Dad to people I mention that he died, not that he passed.

I have found that people in politeness will sugar coat things. Others are more to the point with no bad intentions. Nothing wrong with being polite, or to the point IMHO.......i2f

I think the use of the term 'Pass' is indicitive of ones faith, but it does seem to be predominantly a North American coloquialism

We can always say, the old bastard kicked the bucket and is pushung up daisies, but saying passed is a whole lot more polite...

Can't say I have ever really heard the word "passed" in common usage - sounds a bit like what an undertaker would say.

For "my" dead people I use the phrase "fell of his / her perch" - sometimes it is about making the other person comfortable (well, at least as comfortable as they can be after having just asked "how is xxxxx?" ).

We've always used the terms "passed away" and "died" synonymously and I assume "passed" is just a shortened version. Don't know why I used one sometime and sometimes the other? To me there is no difference.

Agree "passed" means passing from one life to another...hopefully the one we learned about as kids. However, I still like what a friend of mine had inscribed on his tombstone---" I Told You I was Sick "

Nope, I intend to die. My parents are dead. My dog...is dead. If I pass, it's for white.

When asked how I am; I may say that I've kicked a few buckets and nothing has happened yet!!

But if I didn't like the person they had asked about... I would say: He died. Or gone to Hell in a hand basket.
If I did like the person....I would say: That they passed on to a greater reward. Or in Heaven waiting for his friends.

Having out lived all of my friends; that they are probably in heaven thinking that I've gone to Hell in a hand basket.
