This is a forum...an electronic way of communicating an opinion. It's not a chat room. Although some treat it as such and the drama comes into play.
In reality...if someone does not like what I say, they should not read it or at least except it as some ones opinion and move on.
In all actuality, I don't care about your opinion, so no need to ignore you. This is not High school and not a popularity contest.
I can agree with this.

We've met many very nice people thanks to this forum. Those who leave, mostly do it by choice (except for two and a half regulars that I can recall), others probably get bored and move on. I use it as a way to remain in contact with friends worldwide, some I've never even met in person.

Several times love posted a question on CF and then get an immediate response from someone anchored nearby. It's a small world in the cruising community.

First of all Gord, thanks for posting your picture. I do like to see who I'm talking to. That you say hello to everyone just because it's the kind thing to do moved me. You will always be welcome on my boat.
And as I think about, CF has helped me meet alot of friendly sailors here in the PNW. For that I will always be grateful.

Thank yew fer yer support.
Sir Pitt,

This forum has an entire section devoted to this subject. You are aware of it?

I agree with Sandero. But maybe questions like Mr. Pitt's are why some folks just give up. I have been posting answers to electrical questions along with Bill and Maine Sail for the past 15+ years and since I joined here.

But when a website/forum is set up as well as this one, I hesitate to point out the obvious. But I just did. Go to the top of the page, hover over forums and choose Electrical. There's only about 459 years of reading there, and most of it is as pertinent as when it was written and posted.

Perhaps another reason folks leave is they get tired of the same old questions. I don't. I get tired of folks who won't lift a finger to help themselves and do some research and homework.

Mr. Pitt, that may NOT be you, you may be new and unaware of that entire section.

Like sailing, it is a process that takes time.

I have never been interested in the joke stuff... nor in engaging in "debate" and gotcha. It's a internet forum so one needs to take what you find here with a grain of salt at times. Trust but verify!

When I began sailing there was no internet and so information came from books... and experience. Now it comes from experience and sites like this and blogs and so on. ..............................

CF is a great resource.

There are none.
As mentioned there's lots of threads with our knowledge but there are no good, qualitative, independent reviews doing randomised, controlled testing. Every company just says theirs is the best.

For solar they don't work at night. Wind does but so noisy you can't sleep. Plus the most expensive are generally better. Sorry if I sound facetious but its the truth

Happy wading thru the threads

Hey, "I resemble some of those remarks!"

I've been here for awhile and have seen many of the same questions appear many times. I kind of got tired of responding. Gord has done a great job of welcoming to all. I used to do it too but haven't been checking in daily as my life has gotten a bit more complicated in the last year or so and I think some of the older sailors are not unlike me when life kind of gets in the way of what you'd like to be doing.

kindest regards and Merry Christmas/Happy New Year

Wouldn't expect much in the way of details from Cheeky.

Appears he joined to dispense one line words of wisdom to the lowly unwashed masses.

Already has Noelex figured out as a wanker who walks around yards counting anchors. Suggested he get a new hobby. lol.

He's right cause he said so. Gotta love it.

Heh ...

Cheeky's own first threads will be:

What's the best bluewater boat for under $10K?

If you have enough freeboard, do you still need sails?

The wind is free ... so why isn't everything else?

Am I a bad person for stealing toilet paper from the marina restroom?

If I dump my holding tank at night, will the dye be gone in the morning?

Yep. Stu nailed it, Cheeky is a new identity for some old persona. Over on the not nice forum this is called creating a "sock puppet."

I guess each time you upgrade yer computer, you get a new chance to reinvent yerself ... but no matter where you go, there you are.

Interesting idea, sock puppets. I wonder how many of them are out there? I did convince the mods here to change my name, but only to protect the forum. I am still newt, and all my bags came with me.

I had wondered what had to "Newt" and now I know
I had also wondered where S/V Beth had sprung from

Trying (not too hard) to figure out how that matches what I think of when I hear "sock puppet"
