Need Help

Hi all
First time on this site. We are purchasing a boat in Peurto Vallarta and can't seem to find a straight answer on slip fees, maintenance fees, rental fees, etc. The owner of the boat we're buying owns the slip but she is elderly and I think she misunderstands how it all works. I realize there is a maintenance fee that the marina collects, She's saying we would be paying that, approx $3600/year. plus a rental fee to the marina for use of the slip of another $300 per month. Utilities I understand. We pay for them if using them, power, water. So I'm asking you regulars how does this usually work. Surely you don't pay the maintenance fees plus a rental fee. That ends up being around $600 per month. We know we can go to another marina and rent a slip for 3-400 per month. Am I not getting this right.

Re: Need Help

I should explain a bit more I think. This person we're buying the boat from owns the slip. They are paying the maintenance fees ($3300) and I believe that's it. This makes sense. Now she's saying we would pay the maintenance fee which is fine but she's also saying the marina charges rental fees to boaters that don't own the slip so we would need to pay for that too. I can see that if you don't own a slip you pay a rental fee which I understand. The marina gets a percentage and the slip owner gets the rest. Is this not correct.

Re: Need Help

Have you been able to reach the harbor master, marina manager or marina owner...or whoever can give you the straight scoop? I think you want all of this in writing from whoever you would be making the agreement with and not just verbally communicated from a first or worse yet a second party. I know things in Mexico can be pretty casual/corrupt/inconsistent or unclear, so you want to get it all on paper...and then hope it all works out with whoever you make the agreement with.

Re: Need Help

We've talked to a few of them but getting some different answers. I guess I'm kind of looking for what is the norm on these kind of things.
