My Car is Stalking Me On Cruisers Forum

I traded in my dark blue 2008 Scion xB three months ago for a black 2014 Scion xB. It was a great car, but for the past six weeks the same exact car.... my old Scion xb with 95,000 miles on it, same serial number along with the scratched dashboard has been stalking me here on CF appearing in every pop up add on every page.

What are the chances of this annoyance happening?

They are always watching us. You think the nsa is bad? Marketing agencies are 10 times worse. I went and bought an air filter from autozone, joined the discount club and provided my phone for warranty/return. Got an email before i got home.....never gave my email.

It's followed me all the way to Italy. I should write the dealer and ask if I can buy it back for the same price with an extended warranty.

Did you perform a search for it? (Outside of CF obviously). I find that if I do some intense searches, for the next month+ I get adds related to those searches. I did a search on Gun Safes, and for the next two months CruisersForum and TrawlerForum (sister site) were pumping adds for Gun Safes at me.

No search, remember I already purchased a 2014 Scion, so any searches three months ago were for a 2014 model.

Something else spooky just happened a couple of hours ago....

Last evening on the advice of a CF member, I did a google search for the citibank double rewards credit card. Applied online and was approved, so now awaiting the card.

Three hours ago, someone called my wife on our home phone in Massachusetts identified themself as Citibank and asked for my complete social security number.... my wife hung up the phone. She knows that a credit card company would never ask for the complete card number or social security number on a cold call.

So within 12 hours of applying for a legitimate credit card, the fraudsters had already aquired our unlisted home phone number which I hadn't provided on the application, and were now soliciting us for personal information.

The internet marketing company had sold my internet shopping habits to some theives, or rather wanabe theives.

Just be glad you didn't accidentally click on a Viagra add or do an internet seach of Bob Dole.

I blocked "cookies" on my safari settings which has at least temporarily ditched my old car.

Are you at the Long Beach Marina at Shoreline Village? We called it home for 18 months when we owned our Hunter. We were on the HH dock if I remember correctly, one over from the beach and impound dock. Front row seats for the finish line for the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Ken, I don't know if they make CCleaner for Macs, but it has helped me a lot. Besides installing AdBlocker+, I run it daily and it removes cookies (unless I save the ones I want to keep) and cleans up unnecessary files, mostly temps installed when surfing.

Good luck, must be quite a car to follow you so religiously.
