Re: Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

No demands on my part, only what I was comfortable with. If you are looking for validation, I would prob. be OK with what you describe.

Re: Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

Well...

The results are in.

I just got back from a non-burger night at Mr. Manatee's.

I posed the question to the manager. I got a resounding affirmation that they couldn't wait to see me on Monday. She also wondered why in the world I'd think I was taking advantage of them

So...

If you're in Vero Beach, dinghy, walk or drive to Mr. Manatee's on Monday afternoon at 4:30. By 5 the line's out the door.

If you're walking or driving, go over the Barber Bridge and turn left. Turn left again on Royal Palm Pointe and go until you see Mr. Manatee's on the left. Driving, you'll know by the parking lot full of cars. It's about 2 miles from the marina using that route.

By dinghy, it's the first canal south of the bridge and to your right (west). It's a lot closer that way if you aren't in a car.

Be There, or Be Square

If you're coming, please comment so I can tell the restaurant how many (they'll seat us together) to expect...

Sounds like it will be a good time, and talking to the manager was the right thing to do. Wish were were there, instead I will be shoveling snow from the deck for the second time this weekend. Ugh.

Hi Skip,

I believe I'll bite. I'm only a few miles south on the island at the inlet. So, 4:30 pm Monday is the meeting time.

Roger

Re: Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

Skip, my friend, it was I who went where no one else would and voted no.

My no vote is based on working in the restaurant business from 14 yrs old till I graduated from the university at 26 yr old. I worked at every level from dishwasher, busboy, cook, waiter, front line manager. My no vote is in principle based solely on how I am hard wired financially. I do not believe in taking something I do not need. I don't take advantage of others when there is no reason to do it. Just because I can ...does not mean I will or that I should. From my restaurant experiences I learned what a difficult business it is and how hard they work to make ends meet. I think the national statistics show that about 50-66% of all food business fail within the first three years. It has been a long time since I read that article so please no blowtorch applications required if my brain didn't get the numbers exactly right. So, maybe it is empathy or I have gone daft (again) but I have a soft spot for food workers.

My no vote does not mean I think you are wrong in taking the t shirt repeatedly. Their advertisement should've been written more carefully
My no vote simply reflects my ideas of how to comport myself in society and how I feel about the financial structures of restaurants. Skip, u r a bright guy. I think u can understand that there are latitudes in opinions. I hope I have not offended u. Athletically, for me to get a skull boat on plane would require gasoline, pistons, rotational metal objects. I was just a swimmer and runner.. Nothing special.

Re: Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

LOL, Alan,

No offense whatsoever, and I do understand, as all of the admiral's kids and ex were involved in the food service industry; it's why I tip so well.

As to the numbers, I know them, as well. But my favorite tees (also promoting one thing or another) have all got rot holes (or are so thin that pulling them off my back leads to rips) and are destined for the polishing supplies. And, of course, we're leaving soon. It's just fun (not to mention delicious).

And, thanks for piping up and defending your 'no' - it's valid, and illustrative. I share the hard-wiring; it's how I'm cruising, despite being unemployed for 20 of the last 25 years I was in the job market

But, from the horse's mouth, I've been asked to please come again - and this time, I'm bringing friends. Roger, are you one or two or more?

I wish I was unemployed. I am so tired of corporate bean counters with surreal expectations and spreadsheets from hell that don't reflect workload versus FTE.

Hope to cross paths someday Skip.

Yes, 4:30 - after that the line goes out the door.

How many in your party?

Yuck. Is that the deck with the mast in the middle, or the one with the yard out back?

Skip, wish I could make it. That thing looks delicious.

If you're coming, don't forget to let me know so we can have the table space we need. I'm thinking a row of all the challenge-takers, with their burger platters in front of them, would make a great promo picture, especially with all of them empty, afterward!

A Cruisers Forum burgee should be flown from a flagstaff at mid-table. . . .
