Mississippi Twister... Wishing you all nice safe weather this Holiday Season

Well...

It was a first for California boy in Mississippi... Spent a few hours in a storm cellar last night with the awesome neighbors who came to get us...

Conditions were prime... Creepy warm 70's...

Hard hit 60 miles away...

I'll take earthquakes any day of the week!!!

At least an earthquake doesn't come out of the sky and suck you off the earth.

Damn straight Ted!

Now if they could just make tornados hit major downtown cities with regulated building codes...

And earthquakes hit like we are..... Completely open country with nothing to land on ya...

Lots of casualties from this big frontal system (I posted more links/info on the "Tragedy Strikes" thread).

Many incident reports, at least 29 tornadoes, huge wind/hail, and more than 6 fatalities, some in MS...
SPC link to 23Dec severe WX rpts:

Storm Prediction Center 151223's Storm Reports

This system was just a pussycat going through South Texas Tuesday, no rain and it brought very warm, clear WX.
As often happens with these (practically year-round), billions of tons of Gulf moisture and ATM BTU's rode up along this front as it progressed across the South and Midwest; shear and helicity, etc., were just right to trigger all Hell ahead of it.
It's going to be pushing into the Atlantic today/Xmas...

I don't miss that! Once in Arkansas I could see five twisters at one time, all around me. Did the air go still and thick, and turn a little green? Scares the crap out of you every time, especially when animals start acting weird...

We're decent at watching cell paths, rotations, frequency stuff from Wunderground... after the danger was over, the amount of heat and moisture in the trail getting sucked up was eye opening...

It's like you were here min... EXACTLY as you describe...

I've had the same ominous weather feelings many a time, shifts, etc... Even tingly lightnin' and pressure.... Was different and thank goodness not common...

Don't sign me up for that, hurricane is the only natural disaster I've never been near and I don't want any of it.

Been in Cypress Structure quake, Eastbay Hills fire, Mt St Helens, lots of tornados, a few floods and mudslides, etc etc. Never ever want the hurricane. Touch wood...

Sheesh! This is one animal that would for sure be acting weird with 5 tornado cells in sight. We've seen several waterspouts at once, but they in general are pretty tame compared to terrestrial twisters...

What a crappy way to celebrate Christmas!

It was in high school. We were on the field when the first twister came into sight, and I remember the coach had us all take cover under the bleachers, like that would do anything!

Perhaps its the devil you know minaret.... But I would rather have a Typhoon than a major Twister.
You have time to plot/prepare and monitor, whereas a Twister is so much more a focused killer

I'm with ya on this one Pelagic... They are so very good know at predicting chances, zones, and paths... But far far less warning prep time... More like a giant sledgehammer than one big sweep with a shovel
