Maritime Lemonade Stand- Have ya'll seen this?
Not sure what to think about this... but I knew people on here would be interested in the story at least. I'll let the link do the explaining. Seems like there would be a multitude of problems...

Re: Maritime Lemonade Stand- Have ya'll seen this?
He didn't mention EPIRB for when he needs to be rescued and bail money for when he gets arrested for doing business without a license in all the countries he's planning to visit.
Oh - And he's gonna need a fedex account because 90% of the places he's going don't have lemons...
Other than that it's a great plan. Especially considering he's already convinced people to give him almost $8,000 to outfit the boat.
(Is it really that freakin' easy to get people to send you money?)

There should be a wagering thread here on CF.
I love creativity, but...

Re: Maritime Lemonade Stand- Have ya'll seen this?
Yeah I had the same thoughts as many of you did. This...isn't going to end well. Unless he is more capable and actually has thought this completely through- its just not apparent in the video he did. He could be a life long sailor for all we know, downplaying his ability for the entertainment value. I hope so, otherwise...
I figure the simple fact that he bought the boat...and THEN found out he'd need to outfit it...implies he didn't do much research into the matter before going headfirst into it.
But hey, at least he is going for it right? Live life to the fullest and all that?
So I guess all anyone really needs to get money to fix up their boat is some sort of creative reason... hmmmm....

Some of the same thoughts I had. From the blithering, I take it he hasn't tried his hand at sailing yet.

I'm not sure his choice of boats, a Grampian 31, would be anywhere near the top of my list of a boat for a RTW.
Amazing results on his funding efforts though. Got to give him some credit on originality.

Considering kids get shut down for selling lemonade in the land of the free, I see this as a great opportunity to illustrate intrusive governments around the globe.
Maybe he'll be featured on an episode of Locked Up Abroad.

Re: Maritime Lemonade Stand- Have ya'll seen this?
Someone suggested I consider such a campaign to raise funds to reconstruct my old wood sailboat. I still ponder that from time to time. Self-absorbed is the first thing to come to mind. This guy has some connections - NG and all. He'll likely get some kind of boost at some point. I mean, 7K to outfit? He's kidding, right? Evidence of a lack of understanding.
I think a gentlemanly wager would be fun.

Not the least of which is how cutesy and annoying this guy is.
The seagoing lemonade stand is clearly just the gimmick upon which he hopes to base a TV show and/or book (yeah right- "I'm tired of working in televison." Give me a break. ) He cannot possibly think that he can actually fund a circumnavigation cruising kitty by selling lemonade to his fellow cruisers.

Oh, come on fastbottoms. Who would eevr have thought "Survivor...castaways on a desert island" was going to be a reality show about, well, group dynamics and politics?
Who ever thought reality TV and assorted housewives would be the biggest products on tv?
And who ever...no wait, that was PT Barnum who said never underestimate the intelligence of the rubes, wasn't it? (G)
Beats hanging out at the base of the highway ramps with a sign and a cup, doesn't it?
I think I'm going to find the world's sexiest garden gnome (way too explicit to post photos on this forum) and then ask for money to take it around the world. Come on, for an extra sawbuck I'll even let you guess it's gender!

===Beats hanging out at the base of the highway ramps with a sign and a cup, doesn't it? ===
My office overlooks an intersection that is quite active with that crowd. A local TV station did some investigating and found that groups of folks link up and work the street corners in shifts. I know that is true because I watch while the shift changes over. A van drives up, 2 folks get out with their cardboard signs and 2 folks climb in with identical signs. When the reporters followed the van they found that these folks had rented a very nice house and had about 10 folks sharing rent. When questioned, one of the "homeless" persons confessed that each person took in (tax free, of course) between 40k and 50k a year.
Nice work, eh?
But that's basically what this guy is. He is using a site that folks use to raise money for a sick relative or a start up business. This guy is basically saying -
"hey, give me money". Before the days of the inter web, I have saw newspaper ads which as for just this - and folks sent money.
We see some of the prosperity preachers do the same thing, under the color of a religious institution - and folks send money.
I'm in the wrong business.

Hi,
My name is Dan and I am working on being way cute. I don't know anything about anything but I do know that there are people all around the world deprived of reality TV.
I am going to circumnavigate the globe and distribute reality tv DVDs to all the underprivileged of the world. Face it. The world sees too much strife and war. They need a good dose of Americanism at its best. The world's problems can be solved with a healthy does of Duck Dynasty, Jersey Shore, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and of course Pimp My Wedding.
All I need is a boat, and the money to sail it around the world.
Oh and sailing lessons - Please give generously.
