The U.S. government is currently giving away more than they're taking in, and I think most people (particularly the rich) realize that at some point the game of musical chairs is going to end, and someone, somewhere is going to have to pay in more.

Studies show, however, that nobody "feels" rich. Most people survey that, at any income level, they would feel "rich" if they had twice their current assets or income.

The biggest issue here is the capitol gains tax rate. This allows fat cats like Perkins and Romney to pay ulta low taxes. My tax rate is way more than Romneys claimed 11% and I make way less. How the f**k does that make sense?

I believe you mean capital gains tax.

Do you know how much Romney paid in taxes? That would be the very minimal and basic understanding required to have a debate on this topic.

I agree with Kenomac on this one. How is this related to cruising?

It is is offensive to compare the halocaust to anything occuring in modern times.

Wealthy entrepreneures create most of the jobs which create the employees which pay the taxes who pay for the governments spending. In that respect we need the 1%.

Making the wealthy poor I fear would only make everyone equally poor except for those in government.

If you read the entire Perkins interview/piece, he's comparing the progressive socialist movement of today in America to the Nazi build up from 1930 up until WW2. Nothing about the extermination of the Jews and the millions of others who also perished... He's talking about the confiscation of wealth and the demonization of a group of people by a government. Perkins just doesn't want to see history repeat itself.

You're right regarding your analogy that a receding tide lowers all boats.

David M, I was going to reply much the same as Kenomac. The Nazis didn't come to power by promising to imprison and kill the Jews. The "rich" were the low-hanging fruit then, as now. But then that fruit is gone, and there's another group to envy or hate...then as now.

Caracal, I don't subscribe to Faux News, either. Just a relatively well-read student of history. And I'm not convinced that an argument helps the discourse. Peace.
