Live Aboard slips in San Francisco?

Hi all,
Tried to do a search but nothing really came up that I needed.. Can anyone here recommend the best marina (if any) that allows a bit of live aboard? or at least mooring fields, etc..?

I'm looking to purchase a boat in the bay area and really not familiar with the local water landscape, but I have lived there for a bit.. I've lived aboard in San Diego with no issues and wanted to get options for the bay area.

Thanks in advance everyone for their time and input with this query.

There simply aren't any. FYI, this is a recurring question. I humbly suggest you type your question title in the search box, and read away. Sorry for the bad news.

Use the Google Custom search feature, a few lines down on that tab

Try The marina in Richmond, Marina Bay. Town sucks, neighborhood not bad. Lived there 2 years.

Thanks all.. Yah, got a better search and thanks for the Richmond idea.. I'll check it out..
I think the boat being purchased is already in Alameda and I should be able to extend the current lease on it, etc.. I'll have to negotiate with the broker and the harbor master/dock master, etc...

shadow,

It will be different if you have to work while you are living aboard, and it will be very difficult to set up; you will be very lucky, over the top lucky if you are able to do it.

The Bay Conservation and Development Commision has limited marinas to 10% liveaboard occupancy. And, of course, lots of people want to live aboard there.

Check Emery Cove Yacht Harbor

I know Redwood City does not allow live aboard.
What's left of Dock Town does but not much chance of an opening anytime soon

There are live aboard berths in SF bay area. Berkeley bas some. But most are at the 10% limit set by BCDC. You have to inquire with every harbor master. Good luck

Re: Live Aboard slips in San Francisco?

Two options. Rent a temporary guest slip by the month and move about a bit every month or so. In many cases the temporary slip may cost no more then a liveaboard slip and no deposit required.

Second option, buy two boats in two separate marinas. Marina's allow 3 days a week liveaboard, but don't check to close if one is 4 days every other week.

Not most, every marina in the Bay Area has a 10% limit on liveaboard slips.

Third option, buy one boat and move it between two separate marinas. I have a client who does this in the Emery Cove and Emeryville marinas. Makes it a PITA to find him when he's due for service, but it seems to work for him.

Welcome to nazi California. It is incredibly difficult. Some wait lists are over 5 years.

I was at Grand Marina and on their waiting list for a permanent slip. My sublet ran out and I moved. Came back a few months later to check the list. New people in the office and my name was gone on their "new" list.....real honest people.
