Licensed Captains - Worst Yacht Delivery You Ever Had

Hi Guys and Girls,

I wanted to hear from you licensed captains out there about the worst deliveries you ever had, whether it had to do with other crew members, the owner, weather conditions, the actual condition of the vessel, etc.. Tell me what you learned from those experiences. Would love to hear some of these stories. I know everyone has at least one.

You do not want to hear the bad stories. I do not want to get sued.

Hi Chuck,

I read your blog on the delivery in South Carolina. Great story! I have been there with some of those issues (leaking fuel, bad fuel that needed polishing, and clogged Racor filters) so I was definitely feeling your pain! I hope the owner of that vessel was understanding of your issues. Thanks for sharing! Fair winds!

I would imagine you only get to hear these sort of tales after applying a generous portion of rum to the afflicted skipper.

Paid for by the listeners, naturally.

The thing about bad delivery experiences is you forget how terrible the trip was after a week ashore and look forward to the next one. That is as long as you don't get terribly injured or die.
I look forward to see your book come out John.

Re: Licensed Captains - Worst Yacht Delivery You Ever Had

2 of us Caught a delivery from AK to OR, with a stop in Kodiak island, ended up ferrying 600 dungy pots off a deserted beach in a skiff so leaky we had to pump it out upon arrival to the side of the boat before taking the pots out or it would sink, last load of pots off and the skiff did sink, started off across the gulf of Alaska, caught in a 60+ knot blow making 1 knot to the good, water coming on the deck going directly into the fuel tanks, then had to be drained out, turned 35 in the middle of the blow, finally got to OR, in time for Halloween, got really drunk, next day owner tried to pay 10 days for a 14 day trip, was not happy when I insisted on the rest. Other than that the trip was great, the weather finally let up just before we crossed the bar and was flat calm upon arrival.
