pirate Kite surf fatalities..

Three Australian wind surfers have died on the coast of Portugal at Praia Meco.. 2 men and one woman.
Seems they ignored the advisories and went out to practice anyway..
One took off according to a witness and was carried away.. the others apparently treid to chase and recover but alledgedly tangled and came to grief..
Two bodies recovered so far..
Thought it may be of interest to Aussie members.
Condolences to the families.

Re: Wind surf fatalities..

When you say "took off" you aren't referring to kite surfing, are you? It seems wind surfers used to feather their sails and still manage to get home.....in the old days.

Re: Kite surf fatalities..

Perhaps there is more than one sad incident. Praia Meco is where Boatman61 said the Australian kite surfers perished.

Island Hoppers article considers Austrians.

Don't know but there's nothing on the news/internet so far here in Australia, plenty on the internet about 3 Austrians involved in an paragliding incident at Praia do Meco Portugal though...very sad news.

EDIT:

UPDATE TUESDAY:

The three Austrians have now been named. The woman is Maria Speiser, aged 37; the friends who came to her rescue Alexander Radstadt, 51 and Johann Riedl, 34.

pirate Re: Kite surf fatalities..

I thought the report was about kite surfers and Aussies though it could have been Austrian and hang gliders..
Portuguese is tough and I still lose it with some words misunderstood..
Sorry..
