What's meant by "serious cruisers"? Competent or uptight? I would hate to be stuck at sea with some of you!

Theres always a trade off. There are many many cruisers who had no business entering water frequented by modern pirates. They gambled and lost. Yes it's very tragic but don't take it out on people flying a Jolly Roger. It's like saying flying the Martini flag glorifies drunk driving fatalities. Just silly.

This IS a fun thread. Seem's to me people are forgetting the children here as well. I have twin 4 yr. old daughters. Are they to be ostracized as well for flying the pirate flag? Pirates arrrr for kids. Some of us have them and wouldn't trod on their idea of a pirate for anything. I for one go cruising to get away from the boring stick in the mud types who would have a problem with this sort of thing. Don't want people like that around my children spoiling their fun....

Lol I think it means one of two things, 1. To wash a pirates belt buckel. One wouldn't look to intimidating if his pants fell down cause of a dirty belt buckel. Or 2. A naked drunken orgey. I would hope so at least. As u can tell I've put a lot of thought into it..lol

I guess travel implies "mixing" with the locals...
These days a lot of travel could be conducted without leaving "home"

A buckler is a small shield worn on the arm. A swashbuckler would be someone who beats his sword on his shield before a fight, an age old swordmans tradition which means "I am about to engage you".
