For good measure, fly "D" for "keep clear" and "ZV" for "I've been in an infected area during the last 30 days."

I don't want to feel left out at the next raft-up. Just how does one "swashbuckle"
Is it done in waltz or minuet time.

Guess I have to throw away my Viking helmet too. The farmer down the road killed his wife a few years back so I should probably stop eating corn as well.

What's meant by "serious cruisers"? Competent or uptight? I would hate to be stuck at sea with some of you!

Theres always a trade off. There are many many cruisers who had no business entering water frequented by modern pirates. They gambled and lost. Yes it's very tragic but don't take it out on people flying a Jolly Roger. It's like saying flying the Martini flag glorifies drunk driving fatalities. Just silly.

We interrupt this thread with an early warning. If this had been a real emergency there would have been posts deleted. Keep it polite folks.

We now return to your usually scheduled thread.

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

This IS a fun thread. Seem's to me people are forgetting the children here as well. I have twin 4 yr. old daughters. Are they to be ostracized as well for flying the pirate flag? Pirates arrrr for kids. Some of us have them and wouldn't trod on their idea of a pirate for anything. I for one go cruising to get away from the boring stick in the mud types who would have a problem with this sort of thing. Don't want people like that around my children spoiling their fun....

Lol I think it means one of two things, 1. To wash a pirates belt buckel. One wouldn't look to intimidating if his pants fell down cause of a dirty belt buckel. Or 2. A naked drunken orgey. I would hope so at least. As u can tell I've put a lot of thought into it..lol

Well said. Agree 100%
Mark twain said "travel makes an enemy of bigotry"
Some xenophobes just can't let up with trying to judge and decide what others should do say have etc
I guess travel implies "mixing" with the locals...
These days a lot of travel could be conducted without leaving "home"

These days the gangsters don't use any buckle. That's why they can't outrun the police- pants fall down

[from swash (in the archaic sense: to make the noise of a sword striking a shield) + buckler

A buckler is a small shield worn on the arm. A swashbuckler would be someone who beats his sword on his shield before a fight, an age old swordmans tradition which means "I am about to engage you".

Snort.... would that be a Clintonesque comment that culminated with a stain on a blue dress?

I have never looked at a cigar the same way since that time... double snort.

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

So... what about the viking flag? Can I fly that one? I like to recognize that part of my culture but the viking people pillaged large parts of europe? Or what about my french side? (insert joke about flying white flag here)

I still like putting the care bear at the top... You know someone is seriously dangerous when they have a care bear flag at the top of their mast....

Well, military gets a pass. ;-)

Btw, do US subs fly them these days? I've been out a long time and can't remember seeing any. But I was just a passenger in the gator navy, not crew.
