No US Submarines do not. At least none of the ones I was on.

Henry Friedlander provides a compelling and accurate portrayal of the origins of the Holocaust in the elimination of the mentally ill and physically handicapped. He starts with a description of the origins of German theories of racial superiority based upon social Darwinism which began long before the Nazis came to power. Many German physicians believed that the handicapped were a burden to society and that one of Medicine's chief functions was to be merciful and weed out the lame and feeble and remove them, painlessly, of course. With the advent of National Socialism and coming to power of Adolf Hitler, these doctors willingly joined in the sterilization and euthanistic practices of the Master Race. Gypsies and Jews were the main groups selected but all handicapped were gathered up. The author describes in detail the frustrations experienced by these teutonic genetic warriors because they could not more efficiently kill and maim and remove the untermeunschen. This book is a nightmare which can happen again. The world still witnesses the open genocide of Central Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. While Hitler's bodily presence has been gone for 55 years, his philosophical dementia remains with us. This book is an excellent reminder of science misused and politicized.

What do you do with someone flying these two flags?
If they have earned the right to fly the trident, the drinks are on me regardless of the other one. If not, I'd stay clear because that boat is in peril.

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

friend of mine used to fly the jolly roger, as a retired navy SEAL, and he also played bagpipes and wore kilts. his kiltpin was the trident.

I equate the Jolly Roger with the confederate flag.

The people flying it have _NO_IDEA_ what it stands for.

Or even worse; they do

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

I am related to a "Pirate"
His last name was Adams and he was a Privater. If we had lost that war he would of be considered a pirate and hung. All his wealth would of ben confiscated for the crown.Being classified as a "Pirate" depends on whose side your on and who wins me thinks.
Flying the jolly rogers is a personal choice. If it upsets you then decide not to associate with that person. If you fly the Stars and Stripes then i think you should read a little history and realize we as a country were made by "Pirates" and be proud of that fact.
My Thoughts

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

To make it all more complicated, the real pirates of the Caribbean practiced a crude form of racial equality in a time of racial intolerance and cruelty. Although the pirates tended to treat African slaves as cargo, West Indian Blacks who spoke English (or European languages) often were recruited by the pirates for their crew and became full partners on board. They took the same risks as European, Asian, or Native American pirates and received equal shares of the booty.

No, this doesn't make most pirates nice people. But it is part of a complicated picture that isn't the black-and-white (intended!) picture that some would demand.

The same could be said of crews of merchant ships as well. Being a sailor in the old days was such a hard and brutal life, that most wise men with other choices would tend to shy away from the profession; owners of merchant ships would therefore accept crewmen regardless of faith, race, and ethnicity. There was a structure of pay based on what one did on board, with cabin boys and deck hands on the lower scale, topmen, riggers, sail makers, carpenters, blacksmiths, bosuns and mates occupying the upper rungs of the pay scale ladder (usually in the form of percentages of the voyage's profits). Racial and cultural differences simply did not have a place at sea. So yes, there was a better form of egalitarianism at sea.
