Re: Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

Pilot boat was escorting her in; but pilot boat now tied back up to its pier and Nereida sitting just outside the harbor. Not sure if there might be a big ship mooring out there (I don't see one in any images or on the harbor chart), or if she is getting lines ready - It looks like she would need a dinghy to do the med moor inside the harbor (those moorings are shown on the chart).

edit - pilot boat heading back out now... now the pilot boat is poking around the fishing boat warf

ps got to say, I am happy I did my sailing before this sort of surveillance was so easy

Never saw the smile, but this woman is somewhat determined. Great if she makes it. I hear that the crew on that boat said that there's to be no physical contact?????. At this age I understand that statement. Jim and Ann it's OK for you guys though. Nice to snuggle up in this cold spell. Sorry !!!

I should imagine she’s hunkered down fixing stuff and organising below in this filthy weather. We had 60+mm rain and a whole lot of thunder last night just up the road from her.

Re: Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

Marine traffic shows her in Timaru.

She's very tired, slept 15 hrs straight. She's safe for the time being, and will be able to attack the jobs that motion made impossible before.

The mainsail's tears have lengthened. Makes me wonder if it's worn out, and if she has a spare.

Ann

From her blog...
'In doing that, I noticed that where the sail was torn in a few places, the tears had increased - more work to do while here.'

That is not storm damage , that is sun - and age - damage. It would appear to be rotten and this will just keep on happening...DNAMHIKT....

I know what a prudent mariner would be doing in this situation...

Re: Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

Is it legal to just happen to drop a new main with a float near her?
