so what's the next decent option? I have not stopped anywhere on the east coast between Dunedin and Auckland. Is the Lyttelton area reasonable option for her?

Re: Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

I can not understand why she can not use her own anchor or why she needs to grab a buoy ?

Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

May sound stupid, but does she have an anchor and rode?
Seems if one left the windlass, anchor and rode off they could save significant weight, and if your racing?
I know nothing of racing, but wondered why not anchor myself, then thought maybe she doesn’t have one, that would explain the bouy.

'Teddy' was lost leaving Wellington because the anchor had been stowed below....

I think so.... Wellington, Gisborne and Napier after that but after East Cape she is off into the wild blue yonder.....

Gisborne and Napier would be more convenient than Wellington.....why not Picton? just to anchor out (if she can) and get stuck into whatever needs to be done next.

Picton would be more problematic than Wellington....

Timaru seems to be the current destination... 60 miles / 12 hours away...

Re: Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

Thinking about, anchoring, I presume it is prohibited since it is a NON STOP around the planet. Technical rule but makes sense where as picking up someone else's buoy is not the same.

Re: Jeanne Socrates' "Nereida" Damaged in Record Attempt

Anchoring is NOT prohibited by the normal rule set. Anchoring, mooring buoy, and beaching are all allowed and it is still technically ok - so long as she does not use engine and has no physical assistance (eg no lines passed and no pushes).

Tieing to a warf/dock is not allowed.

One can debate how much sense those rules make.

There are two common sets - up thread gord has already posted the wssrc, and the vende globe SI’s are a bit more restrictive.

There have been historical precedents for interpretations. I’m not aware those are all listed in any one place. Google up Yves Parlier and you will find a most extraordinary story of self repairing a carbon mast, following the vendee rules.

Now Jeanne seems to care about Guinness, and again as discussed up thread, it is unclear what specific rules they follow - some flexible combination of the above. They have approved “nonstop” records where boats have anchored and moored.

Currently 3 miles off Timaru, just on dawn, I doubt the finer points of 'the rools' are her greatest concern just now... I'd be more concerned about the safety of my ship... https://www.weather-forecast.com/loc...recasts/latest
