Re: Is "Seven Seas" a corny sailboat name?

Despite the comments above I don't find the name corny at all, maybe not very original but not corny.
One thing to do is check that any name you choose doesn't have a bad history afloat, I would never name a boat 'Wahine' for instance.

Some names I would avoid:
Hurricane

Typhoon
Tsunami
Bermuda Triangle
The other woman

Count me as a fan of "End of the Road" given your Key West location - It's like you found the end of the road, so you bought a sailboat and just kept right on going... (future Buffet lyric?)

Btw, around here "7 Dees" is a large nursery... Too close to 7 Seas for my liking

Exactly....that's one true way that end of the road is personal to me.
Seven Seas is a term broadly used for more than just bodies of seas. I can't remember where I saw it on the web but Seven Seas has been seen throughout history for many symbolic uses, it's actually very interesting.
There's alot of interesting comments here and I appreciate them very much.
Someone in this thread made a remark that I shouldn't care what others think of a boat name that I choose but that wasn't my intention for asking. The fact that I have owned the boat for over 3 years simply means I'm stumped for a name.
I do like the powerfull British attitudes for naming boats.
Of the 3 names mentioned I'm leaning towards Meriwether. Although I like the other 2 names almost as equal. I grew up on Lewis and Clark and really admire what they accomplished.
Unless my wife will agree to me naming my boat "Shakira".

Re: Is "Seven Seas" a corny sailboat name?

A boat is also traditionally called a "she," so since you like the saga of Lewis and Clark, how about the name of a Native American princess who saved them and guided them to distant shores (like your boat will too)?

Sacagawea!

Re: Is "Seven Seas" a corny sailboat name?

OK, so Seven S3eas actually refers to the major oceans, not seas at all...so if you google this you'll find there are LOTS more seas...in my Southern/Indo/Pacific region about 54 Seas .... or ....

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCC

[Tongue In Cheek]

Hmm, that's almost a boat name in its own.
