Re: Is Anyone Interested in Unusual Boats These Days?

It has been hit or miss with me at boat shows. Mostly I go because I have one very specific thing to buy and the rest of the time I browse. I do want to give kudos to Scanmar which sells Monitor self-steering vanes. They go out of their way to put the "customer" back in customer service!

Re: Is Anyone Interested in Unusual Boats These Days?

I think one problem with boat shows is that the reps are in front of a firehose of people coming by and soon get so numb they cannot handle a real inquiry.
I am lucky in that I live and sail in San Diego where there is a large sail and powerboat community. My go to resource is the salespeople at the serious sailing shops, either cruise or race. They seem to know what works and doesn't as well as which specialist can help with specific problems. Ask around the dock for where the most reliable shop is.
