Install new head and tank

Putting a new head in my boat. What to go direct to outlet or have a y valve to be able to go to the tank . Also from tank back to y valve by gravity. Also have a deck line for pump out at dock. Any suggestion how to hook up such a system?
Do not want to use a discharge pump. If possible , read somewhere I could use an air pump on the tank to help empty it.

Or better still, install a composting head. No added holding tank, no pumps, no extra holes in your hull or deck, never pay for another pump out, plus you down have liquid sewage sloshing around like in a potty or a traditional marine head.

For a full-time crew of two, or short-term usage for four our more, it's a no-brainer (assuming you have space on your 28-footer).

A y-valve won't let the black water flow from the tank to the overboard discharge. It will just send it back to the toilet. You'd need to make a manifold of two or more valves to do that.

I would suggest you simplify the system by having the toilet pump directly into the top of the tank and mount a discharge fitting low on the tank. Put a Tee on the discharge fitting with one leg going to the seacock and the other to the deck fitting. The tank of course needs to be above the waterline to gravity drain. It would be great if the toilet was higher than the tank so the Stuff always flows down hill.

A valve on the tank discharge before the Tee is a good idea.

It's probably not a good idea to pressurize the tank with an air pump. I'd worry about blowing out a hose connection. You'd have to close the tank vent to do it anyway.

I'm in the same "boat" & I've decide to avoid all the hassle & expense of a new tank & a bunch of hose.

Ditto HopCar's suggestion. I replaced the entire head, tank and hoses in a Morgan 37 Out Island. Used the expensive $8 per foot odorless hose (years ago - may cost more now). The hardest part of the job for me was running those hoses, but once it was done I had a fairly odorless system.
