Important things we don't talk about much

So far we got sleeping, cooking, goofing off on a hammock, reading...

Now… we have to eat. The body does not keep all it ingests, most of it has to be sent out.

We spend lots of money on the head, and constant maintenance, still we only use it for a few minutes, maybe 3 times a day. There is an enclosed room in the boat totally dedicated for those few minutes of purging pleasure. Go figure.

Once off the cost of Brazil I had to have a second person on board and a fisherman came sail with me. For the eight-day passage, I did not see any signs of him using the head… he said it was complicated… I am sure he had “to go” and he did while I was off watch sleeping. Apparently he had a well practised technique because he left no evidence whatsoever.

Mind you, I could not do it using a bucket, and yes, I do have a proper marine head…. ...I cannot live without it, its the way I was brought up I guess. I still think we pay too much attention for such a simple and natural act.

Thanks for that Mark! I recognized that something was going on and have been writing it off to romantic musings as to why I sleep so well on the boat v. the home mattress.

BBQ don't work when it's blowing 20kts. We got rid of ours. Got a good cast iron pan. Sears a steak wonderfully.

Weber Q. They will amaze you. Bloody great BBQ, wind doesnt effect them, they dont rust and they double as a great pizza oven (you need a pizza stone). Been using ours for 4 years on the front deck of a beachside house with zero problems. And the steaks are great!

OOps - looks like hoohaa beat me. Surprised to hear you;ve got wind problems though. HAve you tried putting a boad of some type under your mounting bracket (ie - to simulate a table top). We have zero wind problems with our family Q in pretty much the same environment - the only difference is ours sits on/in the weber chassis - so the very bottom is not as exposed as yours is.

Okay, Pelagic,

Why not pick one of the crew who has good attention to detail to sort out the maggoty stuff from the rest. You only need two bags, and a few paper towels, detergent, and to have your sense of smell shot off in the wars! But almost anyone who has changed diapers could sort it for you. Not saying it's the same smell, but the mind-set that focuses your consciousness on the job not the yucky part thereof.

However, I do agree that good garbage management is important.

Almost exactly like the one my ex and daughters got me some years ago. Think it's a Weber Q model, very nice durable little BBQ.

Been there done that on a long trip from Hawaii to Phonpei.

Garbage disposal is becoming more and more of a problem even when seperated.

Communities don't like to accept strangers garbage. And in some islands they just throw it back into the Sea

Good beans, grinder, hot water and a plunger {with the addition of a tot if the time is right)

Who needs machines and capsules.
