I need opinions of catamarans

Hello there. I'm in the process to buy a boat. And I would like to know some of your opinions about 3 catamarans:
a used 38' Fountaine Pajot Athena 38 from 2002
a used 34" Gemini 105 MC from 2001
or a used Seawind 1160.

I would like to sail FL., Cuba to Brazil, but not constantly, basically day-trips and not longer than 3 days. Needless to say, that I want to live on board most times.

I like the Athena, but I'm not sure, if I always have company on board. Therefore would consider the smaller Gemini, although the work on board is more or less the same.

Thank you for your help.

What's your price range for the Athena and would you consider an older one?

In terms of seaworthiness and construction durability I would rank them

1. SEAWIND 1160
2. fp 38 Athena
3. 34FT gemini

would not be much between seawind and FP Athena if not then it comes back to your personal tase and condition of the vessels.

Cheers

The Athena is listed around € 100,000.
The Gemini has a tag of US$98,000.
A Seawind is yet to be found.

My idea is not to buy a boat older than 10 years, but - off course - all depends on condition and price. If the price is right, I would change my opinion.

Bob, you are right. The Seawind is in a different range. I didn't know, that the prices are so high. So it is out of the picture or better said "out of my budget".

Thanks again.

Re: I need opinions of catamarans

I looked at a couple of Geminis but couldn't buy one just because it was too hard to walk forward. The side decks are wayyyy too narrow and it took me forever to get up front. I would like to be able to deal with emergencies quickly.

This Gemini Slapdash is just finishing a circumnavigation and the boat is up for sale. I've read their blog and the Gemini did a nice job for them. Good Luck!

Why is that, do you think? Is this a common issue for Gemini owners? I'm also in this market. I'm six two and about 230 lbs, with one titanium knee and another one in my future. I'm pretty spry, and agree with you about liking easy and quick access all over the boat.
