Re: How to showcase your boat or Bumfuzzles quit sailing

I didn't even know I wanted it till I went and looked at the page..

That's gonna go quick, I think. The interior looks fantastic, and the space in the pilothouse... oh my...

Nicely done.

But a couple of quibbles.......

I don't like the blog style layout - life is too short to be scrolling down forever ....especially with ginourmos pics and a slow (mobile) Internet connection.

Would also like a page with a full equipment listing and soMething about the builder / designer.

Overall 8/10 .

It always amazes us how little effort some people put into marketing their boats. No matter how good the boat if they can't even clean up it raises one big question.

"If you can't keep the damn galley sink clean how well have you maintained the vessel?"

We made a few lowball offers on basically sound but poorly maintained and dirty boats. It's amazing what some owners think their boat is worth.

We bided our time and bought a well maintained vessel. The seller kept it clean and shipshape.

Re: How to showcase your boat or Bumfuzzles quit sailing

Ya know, after an initial "gee whiz" reaction to the beautiful photos, I rather agree with DOJ: very attractive presentation, kinda low on the important details of equipment. IE, no mention of size of sails (weight of cloth, area etc, rather than "beautiful tanbark yankee" or whatever it was), how many and what size winches, no mention of electronics (if any) type and size of prop, transmission type and ratio, and so on. These details are, to me, more important than repetitive and redundant photos of what is indeed a nicely detailed interior. Also, the continual use of superlatives in the text: "huge" this and that, "beautiful", " acres of storage" and so on... sorta gets my personal goat!

But I must say, it is maybe the best set of interior photos I've ever seen... someone knows what they are doing there!

We enjoyed their company when we met them in Oz a few years back, and I hope that the boat sells well for them.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: How to showcase your boat or Bumfuzzles quit sailing

As someone who is dreamingly looking at boats for sale, I would say this listing is among the beter, except for not seeing really any of the engine or some of the storage/lockers, and a more concise listing of equipment.

That said, my pet peaves that I wish any future yacht broker would learn from the Bumfuzzles is:
1) Start at one end of the boat. Have a clear description of the layout, with photos using a good wide angle lense.
2) As much as possible, have each photo show either something that was in the previous photo, or something that will be in the next. Helps establish relationships and perspective.
3) Show each cabin clearly, with the size of each bunk. I don't really care if the boat can sleep a dozen people on each possible surface. What I want to know is what does a family of 4 do for living arrangements, and for us it is unlikely that we'll be converting the dining room table to a bed every night. Still nice to know that it can when friend visit, but I hate listings that say something like: " Sleeps 6 in 3 cabins" where one of those cabins is the table.....
3) Just list the age/time of whatever equipment/upgrade. Calling a VHF radio "New (2010)" only makes me think the listing has been up since then (and maybe it has).

Ok, rant over. .. And, yes, I want that boat too ....

Well, DOJ is practicing his curmudgeony before he gets old.

He's doing pretty good so far

That can't be a real boat listing, where's the one of the quarter berth stuffed with the cockpit cushions, plastic totes and fishing rods?

I think they did a great job on the listing, it gets interest in the boat and shows what's important. Anyone wanting more specific information can contact the broker.

They are selling it themselves. Have you ever contacted a broker who knows anything about a boat? They major in, "I don't know".

They are selling it through a broker. As their page says, it will be on yachtworld in a few days.

Had to look to find that... It was not on their boat for sale page but main blog.

I'm not sure they need a broker but they need to make their own decisions for their own reasons. They've done pretty well so far with that strategy

Re: How to showcase your boat or Bumfuzzles quit sailing

Just went to the Bumfuzzles' webpage and the boat is listed as sold. Not surprised. That interior is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. It shows well because it is also extremely well maintained.
