I dunno how ya'll find the time! You could spend 4hrs a day here and still only scratch the surface... and this is not the only like place on the interweb!
I'm sure there are a bunch of you who manage much more than that.
I'll go for months without checking in, but every now and then i'm drawn for my own education or interest, or to help others along. I find that once im in the web, its hard to get out.

Obviously you have not spent a winter up north.
I can only watch "All is Lost" so many times.

Seriously-I'm retired, weather is particularily poor this winter,I learn a lot & it's fun tormenting this group.

The older I git the longer I set. When I lived on the boat I had no net. Five months dry and seven months wet. Now I'm land bound, the boats on the hard ground. I don't know when I'll go sailin agin. Mac

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

Waaaay too much time I read these as well as Trawlers Forum, and Sailnet. I'm retired and my boat is in Mexico, so I have a lot of free time when I am not there. I learn something everyday from you folks.

Cheers, Bill

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

6 to 12 hrs a week for me. I try to learn/read 3 hrs each day about all the eclectic subjects that interest me when it comes to boats, navigation, weather and the Columbia River and West Coast. CF is the best IMHO. I do however get confused with some of the abbreviations. They make this old man stop and have to think through what is being said. Or maybe it is my try focal glasses that need cleaning.

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

Let's see, a few hours during the week is typical. At least, after work.
Just can't mention what I do while I'm AT work.

Weekends add quite a bit more time so I spend at least 24hrs a week on forums, CF, Sailnet, wooden boats... Not doesn't even start on the time spend enjoying sailing related blogs and Youtube videos.

It really needs to warm up soon so I can get back to regular boat work.

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

I COULD spend 50 or more a week on here, there is such a wealth of info. What I do is go thru all the latest posts, pick what is important to me and file in individual folders. So when it comes time to redo the deck, go to my deck folder and start reading. I'm guessing that takes me about an hour a day. I don't read or visit any other forums. This is enough.

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

When I was a mod I was an addict spending 6 hours a day at least.

Now I am a functional addict able to limit my intake to 10-12 hours a week.

I do not keep up with such things, but definitely more on weeks such as this. Saturday night we'll see -30 windchill. I learn much from the discussions on things that I have questions on such as coastal cruisers vs Water boats">blue water boats Now, if I can only find a Contessa 32 in the States that's not a project that will out last me.

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

I don't spend hardly any think this is my third post and its probably been 6 months since I was on here. Most of the time I forget my pass word and have a hell of a time figuring it out. Try not to spend much time on computers I tend to believe there is a real world out there and that's why I have and live on a boat. But I pop in from time to time hopping that perhaps I can work on more friendships with other sailors, kind of hard when I don't put much effort into it. Seems life is kind of isolating these days but perhaps it's my job and life style.

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

As a wannabe I live my life vicariously through all of you.
I'm still reading thru older posts, just so I don't start asking stupid questions when i do get my boat. You know, questions like whats a thruhull and what purpose....or where is the thruhull for my engine.....or......
and I won't be asking one of these types of questrions...
what is a perkins 4-108? Do I relly need to keep it, or is that really just the ballast that keeps my boat from turning over?

All of that said, I spend around 2-4 hours per day? I think?
However, after the house sells and the ex and I split the equity, I will have a boat and start the refit. When that happens, I'll probably be on here less for research, but will be posting pix of the progress. Don't think I will be painting my engine some funky colors, however, there will be some accent colors

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

This is the only forum I do so after walking the dog, making coffee and reading the newspaper in the AM I like to get a bit of a boat fix before breakfast and setting about all my myriad projects. Luckily I'm retired and can take the time.

I've learned a good deal from this forum. The best lesson is that I don't know everything and this is a safe place to ask questions.

Re: How much time do you spend on the forums?

Well for a few days I have tried dropping in more, take the good with the bad but still think the real world is a bigger draw. Back in a few weeks or months, cheers.

We can fascinate each other...

We used to have an add on TV... it started somewhere in the middle of the States and had various folks who had never seen the sea. There were facts splattered around saying stuff like "He has never seen the ocean - its is 1,500 kms away".

The ad worked so well because this is an unthinkable thought for a Kiwi.

In my entire adult life, I've never lived more than 500 meters (or yards) from the sea - in the last 10 years I've never lived more than 10 meters from the sea . Nobody in my country lives more than an hours drive from the water.

Well I have seen the ocean . I travel as often as I can. I just haven't been on a boat yet.
I hope to change that in the next couple of years or maybe in December while I'm in Australia.
