Hosting?

My wife and I traveled for 5 years in a motorhome and did our share of "campground hosting" where we exchanged work for a camp space.

Are there any such things for marinas? We are fulltime liveaboards who are constantly on the move and wouldn't mind volunteering in a state or county run marina in exchange for a slip.

Oh, we are currently on The Great Loop making our way down Kentucky Lake after having spent a week at Green Turtle Bay waiting for Cleon and Dion to make their way through.

This is an interesting idea. Although I'm not aware of any volunteer opportunities, I'd be interested in hearing about any that you find. The only such opportunity I know of is in the Bahamas where you can often volunteer at the Exuma Land and Sea Park in exchange for a mooring.

Have seen a few hosting situations in mooring fields/marinas, but not nearly so common as in the RV world. There are however plenty of owners who will gladly pay you to run their marina/resort/bar...so they can escape from "paradise".

Re: Hosting?

Some people have gotten jobs as assistant harbormasters or marina managers.

Re: Hosting?

In the US, a lot of lighthouses have been turned over to "friends of ___ light" organizations. They often solicit part-time keepers for a week or two at a time. Many have a mooring assigned to the keeper. I think you'd have to spend some time training, and probably sign up well in advance.
