Help Needed in San Diego

I'm trying to help out a good friend who blew up the Vortec 8100 engine in his speedboat which he keeps in Mallorca.

He needs con rods, which can only be bought through Volvo in Europe, and you can imagine what they cost.

After a very long and difficult search, I finally found a set of used ones in a speed shop in San Diego, on Ruffner Street.

Unfortunately the owner is not willing to haul the rods to the Post Office to ship them, and the PO is the only economical way to do it (UPS and Fedex want like $800). They will need to go into probably two flat rate boxes.

So I'm looking for a cruiser in the area with a bit of spare time who would be willing to pick them up and mail them for me. I'll fill out the forms and pay for the shipping online, and I'll pay you for your time -- $50?

You'll be helping me do a good deed helping out a really good guy.

Anyone?

Yes! Paid with card, but the shop owner won't go to the post office to ship it. I can also prepay the shipping online with the post office.

That's extremely kind of you to offer! But I surely couldn't ask you to drive that distance. I'm sure someone local will turn up.

Help Needed in San Diego

If you've got a weight on them The owner can pack them up and you can send him a prepaid stamps.com or even the usps site. label .pdf in email he can u print at his shop. Or of course the prepaid fixed price boxes for priority mail can be delivered to him if you order supplies online.

If he has a printer and a scale you can do this. Even without scale because often overseas it's not wt but size you pay for.

I do this quite a bit where I pay shipping print pdf send it in email and my employee on the other side of the country ships after he's printed the pdf to paper

You might try mailcallsandiego.com. They specialize in mail handling and forwarding for cruisers. Maybe they can arrange pick up from the supplier?

They are on Shelter Island Drive right in the middle of the sailing services.

Re: Help Needed in San Diego

Might there be a trustworthy cab company that has email?
A delivery company based in San Diego?

I had a similar problem, had to phone 3 delivery companies to find one willing to pack some items before shipping them to me.
Offered the Ebay seller £50 and he still wouldn't pack the stuff.

edit: Tayana42's looks like a better solution. Got old, slow fingers, didn't see it

Dockhead,

I have used http://www.amsunited.com in the past for legal courier services. They may be a bit expensive for getting a package, but they are very reliable. Since they generally work for attorneys things like 'seriously has to be filed by 4:30' are just a given.

Re: Help Needed in San Diego

Dockhead, the USPS will deliver flat rate boxes to the shop and I believe the postman will pick them up. You could mail the prepaid shipping label to the shop. All they'd have to do is put them in the boxes, put the label on and trackdown the postman for pickup. Failing the PO picking up, all they'd have to do is drop the boxes off at any convenient PO. Many PO's have an outside 'drive by' package drop so they wouldn't even have to get out of there car. Failing that, the PO surely has an inside package drop open 24 hours so no waiting in line. Don't know what you are paying for the rods but if the shop making the minimum effort to get them in the mail, they are really being dicks. Doubt if you'll get the flat rate postage price to Mallorca, however.

Re: Help Needed in San Diego

Roverhi you are right on method. And as long as he can email a pdf of the prepaid shipping label to the seller it will all be done quickly and with tracking via the usps web site.
