Looks like it could be an ABI windlass.

Thanks!

Looks like an ABI/Plath bronze windlass. We have one that looks similar on our Rafiki. I'll try and post a pic over the next few days. Great windlass btw. Ours is double-action, single speed. Has never let us down.

Plath still shows the windlass on their site. Looks like they are a custom machine shop that will build you one: RC Plath Windlass Photo Gallery

Re: Got a plastic classic?

Well I wish I hadn't seen this boat, because now I want to buy it! Great 1963 Cloumbia 26 sailboat
because it looks to be in good shape and makes a great little California coastal island cruiser, and I have a galvanized trailer in excellent shape it will fit on. I know these boats well and they are tough and sail well. And pretty roomy too. I'd love to start a collection of the old Columbias, but I don't think I can push my luck that far at home! If you know someone who might be in the market for a trailer for this boat, PM me! Great pocket cruising boat /trailer combo for someone! for under 6k$ sheesh it's tempting...

Hey Don keep an ear out I will be looking for a defender next spring. Either that or the 68 islander 30 ( same boat). With a diesel

Will do. The two designs are pretty similar but the Defender has about 1000# more ballast and less beam... and those S&S lines... Both are good ol' boats!

Well sure enough a Defender just popped up, but it is in an auction May 30. Looks like it may be a hull up restoration, but the Defender is nice boat IMO.

Re: Got a plastic classic?

It's a good thing I don't have a big piece of property and a bigger trailer or I'd be snatching up all the good, old, nearly free boats and starting a collection.

I have a big oil gooseneck trailer that will handle up to 25000 lbs. And 36 ft I could let you use .

Re: Got a plastic classic?

Well I made some good progress. I primed and painted the mast and boom. My wire rigging is all finished. The rub rail w/SS striker is complete. and the GPS and compass is all installed and wired. Also when I removed the wood block from around the rudder post I noticed three large holes where the factory tried to line up the hole, they say 3 times a charm? they finally got it, but left the holes, so I fiberglassed them in to add some strength and made a new wood block Attached Thumbnails
