Certain older boats get my attention like Bristols, Albergs, Cape Dory's and similar looking boats. I've been working on my Nor'sea and have a lot more to go before she sees the water again. I like to say I saved my boat from the Previous Owner. The good things he did was get a trailer and new sails.

* I've replaced one seacock, with 5 more to go and two more likely to get patches.

* Replaced the head with an Airhead (haven't used it yet) and found a 2-3" hole in the old holding tank. installed a vent for the Airhead on the deck. replaced head lighting to LED strips

* cleaned up after a bee infestation

* replaced all 9 chain plates, finding one of them had broken

* pulled the engine out into the cabin myself so I can get to replacing the fuel tank (in progress)

* partial rebuild of the engine (still in progress too)

* fixed and refinished the tiller

* removed old electronics for upgrade

and plenty of other projects along the way. Even with all the work I've done and still have to do, I love my boat and wouldn't have it any other way.

I'd love to see your boat sometime. Is it at Herrington Harbor?

I have always been impressed with Alberg designed boats. I sailed her some last summer with a blown out main that ended up tearing. Even so, she seemed pretty fast and intuitive to sail. Pointed well into the wind. She's a keeper.

I'm only refurbing a small 25' and I find it hard to find the ambition. Congrats to all that work so hard on their projects. never stop.

Looks like you are doing the job right!!! She's going to be gorgeous.

You hang in there and you will have a wonderful boat that will last you the rest of your life and then some.

I keep telling myself that too with the work I'm doing on my 35yr old boat. By the time I'm "done" it'll last another 35+ years. Some good boats just deserve to stick around longer.

I luv the old boats, mine is a 1975 CD 25. thankfully my wife works most Saturday mornings so that gives me the chance to do a little work each week. and believe me I have a lot of excuses why not to work on her.

my 1976 Morgan West Indies 36, built by Heritage Yachts, Clearwater Fl. Rare...only 40 made... factory went bust in '79, real bad jimmie carter recession...
refit in '07 and '14...1994 Perkins M30 diesel. with all new hoses and clamps, new oil and filters, new tranny fluid... refit plastic water and fuel tanks, new fat thick SS chainplates, new SS oversize keel bolts with external lead ballast rebedding...( my preference) with integrated custom SS backing plates, new ss mast step with custom radial stress braces, new athwartship SS stringers, new SS steering quadrant and rudder boss, all new running rigging, new mid boom custom mainsail track.
new princess 3 bnr propane stove oven, never used, old holding plate frig freez and box need rebuild... deblistered and ablated bottom, rebuilt rudder with new packing and gland, and new SS shaft,.. oversized lowers with noresman cones all around, new/07 Imron paint topsides and deck, yard prepped and sprayed..new color/touchs GPS, rewired mast with new tricolor lite and airamar cone antenna for wx and look forward transducer for depth...old Lavac head is great,.. .'07, 11 new NFMetals SS opening ports and ss hatches. 2 new AGM batteries, 16,000 btu AC works great..custom cockpit table stows 2 propane bottles.. 2 new xtra cockpit floor scuppers with bronze seacocks,.. all above done by po,...there's alot more,,,she sails great, for me ..its my dream boat...the day my beautiful thick hull was hand laid, I was working down the street at the Irwin factory on the 52 line..
They simply don't build thick hull and decks like this anymore, unless you pay huge money.... she is overbuilt in all respects, especially compared to standard production boats, she still needs the last few details and with a few more boat units,... and my obsessive labor, she will be ready to cruise the Bahamas and Carib'n...I am more than lucky to have her...as my means are modest, to say the least, The price I paid for her was a gift from the all knowing one, I thank him every time I see her...I have talked with the brit that did most of the excruciating labor refit in detail. He did a shipwright job,...she conservatively has had 55k put in her, ....incredible...
she is in the 2011 movie Dolphin Tale, Kris Kristofferson stays on her in the movie, it was filmed in Clearwater... she was a divine gift
36' 5" on deck, 12 ft beam , 4'1" draft. cb delete many years ago added 300 lbs ballast, 55'mast DWL. 695 SA, 17,000lbs dry wgt, 75 gallons wtr, 30 gal fuel....stunning!

Ours is a Nicholson 31, had a few upgrades (deckhouse, teak deck...).

Shiva is GRP balsa cored Context 36s design from about 1980 or so (maybe earlier). Interior is varnished teak w/ GRP gel coat headliner.

Ah...no offense and I don't want to be political, Carter inherited Fords mess and Heritage was severely hurt by Nixons oil embargo. Nice try though.

Nah, the peanut farmer blew it...anyway, by the time '79 rolled around I had sailed down to St Thomas and was having a great time down island, All the tourists and charter guests were saying how bad it was up in the states, 18% mortgages and all...
