you do not need it or the Bahamas
There is almost always another boat in VHF
range to help in an emergency
, if not many (I assume you have a built in VHF
and not a handheld). On the off-chance you cannot raise a boat or land base on VHF you can always use a SPOT or InReach or SatPhone to get help in a REAL emergency
. Heck, you can talk to the US Coast Guard from a large area of the Bahamas over VHF and they regularly patrol there by helicopter and plane (yes - USCG).
Then there are the Bahamians, which are always extremely kind and helpful.
Have you bought the Explorer Chartbooks for the Bahamas? If not, I would do so not only for the charts
but also as a great cruising guide. They write all about radio
procedures, emergencies, provisioning
and immigration, etc... Anything you wanted to know is in that and a few other Bahamas cruising guides
