Finally piqued my wife's interest

My wife lovingly smiled and said, "Of course, dear" when I told her I wanted to learn to sail. She has lovingly smiled and played along when I told her how in a few years we would buy a boat and start taking long vacation sailing in the Caribbean.

The other night I finally got her to say, "Ooo - I love that idea."

I told her she could decorate the cabin and saloon like a gypsy wagon.

I remember in the beginning when I told my wife my plan she said she was for it. But I knew she didn't really mean it or believe you could even live on a boat. But then I took her to the Newport show and she saw various boats and then said yes for real.

For my wife it was the first time that we did a bareboat charter. That was in the BVI, several years ago. She loved it! Immediately was on board with more and longer charters. And now thinks the idea of owning a boat and living on it (okay, maybe not full-time, but at least part of the year) sounds like a great idea.

Congratulations! This is a big milestone and you're right to be excited. Making it "our" boat and "our" adventure and "our" plans has been huge for us as well.

Many couples never really get true mutual buy-in. I think that you've hit on an important key for your wife in how she can feel part of the process and the adventure by personalizing the boat itself and making it feel like a home and not a vehicle.

Very blessed here, with an Admiral who loves being on the water...

We also, however, understand the reluctance of many females to venture out away from the comforts of home...and for those females we developed a range of what we describe as 'cruising-in-comfort' products, many of which are designed very much with the reluctant female in mind.

Almost every day now my wife asks me if we can sell all our stuff and move onto a boat and sail around the world. We've sailed on lakes for years, but are getting certified this summer and hope to do a charter this winter.

It is funny how rolls can be reversed. We are looking to buy a boat in two years and are looking at a couple of models. Let me rephrase that I was looking at two models he was looking at one...until. Oooh look at that wood work, and that master suite...while I am going on about stowage, engine rooms and helm position. Too funny.

Nahh, leave it alone. This is a forum, you're not signing on with Blackbeard. And, quite frankly, I cruise with at least one gun with me ALL of the time. You just have to know how to hide it....

.. wishing to introduce these two proud, noble hi class females to each other, and go for a three-some if they get along.

each a queen of her own, needs much respect and total attention thus the best is to keep theme close by

I'm just saying the guy's asking, I say asking about sailing with his wife in the Caribbean.


I have friends retired from the agency who sailed the Carib until they were found in a burned out hull and all nine were described a 'slaughtered ' sailing under an American flag.

Some of our members write about the Bahamas. None of the routes down there are the place to sail with a Jolly Roger.

So, respectfully, you're no longer on this earth when you're shot. You don't hear it and it all goes black.
