Re: FIJI takes a hit!

Sad pix, but compared to the carnage that has been shown in "protected" marinas, maybe not so bad. I remember seeing what looked like a pile of children's toys after one of the Caribbean hurricanes. Hopefully, many or all of those shown will be salvageable and go on cruising, perhaps with some gouges in the topsides. Fingers crossed for all...

But remember, every time one leaves a boat in cyclone prevalent waters during cyclone season, you throw the dice. This time it came up snake-eyes.

Re: FIJI takes a hit!

looks like there will be a high demand for west system on the island soon!

good luck to all those getting their boats refloated, next spring tides are around the 8th of march with about 1.7m tidal rise which will make a big difference as to how easy it is to pull them off.

Don't say that too load...I was chastised by one of our members, who works on boats, for using epoxy to repair holes. In my case old thru-hulls. He had an ignorant following to chant "hurray for our side". I just glass/epoxied my old knot meter hole today.

Re: FIJI takes a hit!

What a total bummer....

I hope the beached boats are recovered with as little damage as possible...

And that the rebuild/repair back to normal life for the residents goes swiftly...

Hmm... Not a bad idea if you think about it... A "composites store/boat" able to get to and stay a bit in these remote areas... Selling resin and glass at marginal markup to help people out...
