True otherwise I would be questioning any response from someone with a boat sitting in the woods as having any value.

Re: Female Sailor's Request for ABSOLUTE IMMUNITY

Intent and perception are two different things, it is hard to ‘see’ the kidding wink or hear the good natured tone in a voice when you are writing in a blog. I have written and answered a few threads on here and as yet have not felt put down. I have seen a few remarks made that seemed rude or ‘snobby’ but they seem to be posted by the same people and don’t seem to follow any gender lines, maybe I haven’t been reading the same ones as you. You may have inadvertently left yourself open to people who take themselves much too serious with your question. Do women have to be twice as good to be considered as serious, sometimes, but when it comes to sailing you either get back to port safely or you don’t, the sea will send the same challenges to everyone and doesn’t care what gender you are. Ignore the snobs, they aren’t worth getting upset about, and thank those who share their knowledge, they are the ones worth knowing.

"they are the ones worth knowing" and meeting in the future at some pristine, out of the way anchorage.

At least that is how I view the good folks on this forum, as friends I haven't met yet but will someday.

Lancerbye

Sorry, I have not been online. ( & hope I am not the only one who deals with ‘ boat issues in the dead of winter ! )

Nirvana is a 65’ wooden Hinckley who use to be owned by the Rockefeller’s . I believe she is still owned by the owner of Banister’s Wharf, in Newport, R.I. She is privately owned & the last I hear she was in California.

I too have a love of wooden boats & their history (the first boat we had as a family when I was a child was a wooden schooner called, ‘ Follow Me Too’ ) growing up in Lunenbeurg, N. S., you can not help but develop a love affair with wooden boats.

Though, I was not ‘ foolish’ enough to buy one myself , I spend enough time working on the brightwork on the boat as it is !

Life is too short to sail an ugly boat, you are well on your way. This forum is full of very knowledgeable wanna bees, who talk a lot but most likely have only a fraction of your time on the water. Jump in and ignore what needs to be ignored.

The boat may be sitting in the woods, but on the other hand, in 15 mins I can leave the house and be sitting in the cockpit with a pina colada admiring the view (of the trees). And since it's 80 degrees F today I'll bet sitting in my cockpit would be more fun than sitting in yours (which is what, 2 hours from home, 30 degrees and snowing?).

Which does bring up the question, do you really take that death trap away from the dock anyway or sit there drinking pina coladas admiring the view (of the marina parking lot)?

I think that subject deserves it's own thread "What's the best..........."

Maybe in the Multihull forum?

Only 1 hour from home, and its currently 31 degrees and snowing I'll thank you (wasn't any snow on the ground this 1 hour ago)! Bet I'll be sailing that dealth trap this year while your boat is still collecting pine cones!

And isn't a pina colada just a way to ruin rum?

Re: Female Sailor's Request for ABSOLUTE IMMUNITY

I have to say that here at CF we strive to have the kind of environment where a woman doesn't have to "man up". In addition we think it's OK that DOJ is a cross-dresser though we wish we could figure out what he is crossed with. We don't think the term "stinkpot" should be applied too a woman who wears cheap perfume and talks too much since it is reserved for motor boats. We accept that many people will champion multi-hulls and some even think they belong on the same boat. Dogs, cats, children and goats are all acceptable on boats but not Rocna's, unless they're made from the correct metal as advertised.

I think on the whole we do quite well.

I'm under an oak tree thank you. Get a magnifying glass and look carefully at my avatar.

Good rum, a couple of ice cubes and a splash of water. Cheap rum, start adding the fruit.

"I spend enough time working on the brightwork on the boat as it is !"

No kidding. My cousin has a B40 and it looks fantastic but has acres of teak to play with. I think he must employ a small army to keep it looking bright.

This is entirely true. The phrase "Man up" should only be directed toward navigators who sail boats with names like "Honeysuckle."
