Cruiser Health Survey

The question is: Are you having unexplained pain after having been a long term cruiser?

This is a little odd, but a long term live aboard cruiser friend and I discovered we have very similar aliments. Unexplained pain, mostly in the extremities with tingling and numbness as well. One potential name for this is idiopathic or axonal neuropathy, or maybe fibermyalgia. We both cruised aboard for about 10 years and did nearly all of our own maintenance and many upgrades and refits.

Please reply if you can shed any light on this.

Re: Cruiser Health Survey

I have fibro, worked as a mechanic, and chief electrican for the mines. Also on my own boat for years. As I have been told it is not typical for a man more common with the lady's??? Mine surfaced after a string of accidents and the operations that followed. Fibro, hits in a lot of places all at once. For me it is around 80% of my body.

Re: Cruiser Health Survey

Possibly exposure to lead. Easily
tested for.

More likely peripheral neuropathy
from metabolic syndrome/pre-
diabetes. Get an HbA1C test and
try to keep your blood glucose
down (good idea in any case).

NOTE: We are under care and not seeking medical advice. Just seeking info on any common factors. Thanks, Thistle
