Concern Over Yacht - Air Search

Irish search and rescue include naval vessels have begun a search of the south west approaches for the yacht Golden Eagle a 10 metre vessel with two crew. They has been no contact with the vessel since it left Bermuda on the 21 Aug. The vessel was expected in Cork last week. The two sailors are a 69 year old Norwegian and a 60 year old NewZealander.

There are concerns that they got caught up in the tail end of Katia.

Here's to their safe arrival.

The yacht is described as being 9.8m (32ft) long, white and with a blue trim on the side.

Here's hoping for them . . .

2700 miles @ 100mpd = 27 days, which was only up 3 days ago, and they could easily have spend a couple days hove to or running the wrong way, so they are not much 'overdue'.

I would think it very hard to find that size vessel at sea from a search plane with no recent location.

Conducting a massive air and sea search for a boat that was two days overdue on a near 3 thousand mile voyage, STUPID. The relatives of the owner should get the bill for the cost of the search for bringing it to the attention of the authorities. Of course the sailors seem a little irresponsible not turning on their VHF radio because they didn't have a way to charge the batteries.

Dont be too harsh, I do a fair bit of sailing around the south coast of Ireland, and the Irish coast guard are up in the helicopters most days on exercise, probably makes them feel a bit better looking for something real

They probably got hit by what I stayed in Cork for last week...
Off tomorrow tho'... forecast is light S'lies and sea going down from 2m+ to 1.5... shame is have to cut into Lands End to stay outa the strong wind on Tuesday so its not gonna be the straight run down I'd hoped for...

The search was started at a request of relatives who said the yacht was over 5 days over due, at one point 5 naval vessels were looking for them.. Better safe then sorry though

He sailed the atlantic in near winter and doesnt have any paper charts for the approach to Ireland.........!!! ( probably couldnt get them off hes own boat as they were stuck together with all that water).
