Chart Lat/Long

I am generating an Excel list of a worldwide collection of charts including the area covered with Lat/Long for the edges. Then checking which charts are available for a location should be easy.

Opening each chart to find the co-ordinate extremities is seriously boring.
It seems so obvious that this information is useful that I was amazed not to easily find it .

Does anyone know of any lists that contain this information, particularly for UKHO and USA charts?

John, the USA raster charts are available on-line free from the NOAA : Raster Navigational Charts: NOAA RNCs (these are the charts with the ".BSB" and ".KAP" file extensions.) Look at the .KAP file with a text editor and search for the lines that start with "REF/1", "REF/2", "REF/3", and "REF/4". These appear to give the lat/lon coordinates for the chart corners. The degrees are in decimal degrees format (not degrees and minutes).

I'm not 100% certain that these REF points always indicate the corners, but they do for the few chart file I've opened.

Thanks Paul, I picked up a few charts of overseas US possessions from the NOAA details.

Mine are mainly DMA (now NGA) charts, such as DMA 82025. I can find these on the NGA site but no Lat/Longs are given.

I finally learned that NOAA are mainly USA Coastal and NGA are offshore.

FYI I am UK based.

Looks like I may have to get The Admiral/First Mate to type them in as I read them off!

We have a little project running, converting the whole NGA chart collection to KAPs, which as a side effect produces the data you are probably looking for.
NGA Charts Status at OpenCPN.info (English)
NGA Charts project stats -> If you look at the various stats tables, columns North, South, East and West are probably what you are looking for.
You can find all the data exported to CSV readable by Excel at http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...5&d=1324459372 (remove the .doc extension and unzip before use)

I'll post the availability of the file when it's completed for my charts.
