Uh, no. Paying CA tax decreases fed taxes. With any luck you will soon have first hand experience when the deduction for state and local taxes is eliminated and you get to pay the full amount. I predict a rapid decrease in the state tax amount shortly thereafter.

Thanks for the link (saved me the time!) and the other technical support, newhaul.

Talking about taxes. You are already witnessing the shock but be ready for the shock and awe that is coming.

Don't forget to bend over.

I think we have seen the fruit and nuts and they aren't all in CA. Good luck to the communities that are stepping up for the world.

All the feds are doing is getting rid of a deduction that most folks take advantage off.. The slight increase in fed taxes does not decrease state taxes at all.

BTW I don't pay state or federal taxes as I fall well below poverty levels. I got tired of paying taxes it seems .

OF course congress wants to do way with the the mortgage interest deduction too. That's going to make lots O folks happy. But does not effect me at all.

Hmmm... Florida is one of the states that does not have state income tax... so I suppose that means Floridians, by comparison, are paying more in federal tax as a result, since they don't have that extra deduction? Is that the claim? So I am still paying taxes, it's just that some of it goes to the state and some to the Federal Gov, compared to other states...? hmmm
I'm ok with that.

are you deducting your sales tax?

Maybe some Florida communities will take up the fight. What do you think. Will insurance and disaster relief cover your boat/home loss?

Is the bottom line of the quoted post a direct admission or suggestion that Floridians who might so desire or are otherwise motivated can act like Californians and blame (i.e., sue) deep pockets in addition to any receipts from Federal flood insurance and the Federal disaster benefits? Oliver Twist comes to mind. More, sir.

I see that San Francisco and Oakland have joined the fight to make fossil fuel companies pay for the damage to their coastal infrastructures. The beat goes on...

Maybe the fossil fuel companies should quit selling any product in Oakland and San Francisco.....

This kinda stuff is all too common in the U.S. The only ones that'll win are the lawyers.

Re: California communities suing for polluters to pay for storm damage

WAY back in 1975, in my dorm at UCSB, a group of bio majors and a group of physics majors took up the debate of nuclear power. One of the physics majors, a nice young man, on the water polo team, from Orange county, quite conservative, got up angrily and admonished all the tree-hugging bio majors for not endorsing nuclear power. "WHAT? You want us all to get cooked in global warming?" he yelled. I remember it clearly. Now, if a bunch of privileged 20 year-old kids in 1975 knew that fossil fuels were leading us to global warming, don't you think a few oil and coal company executives had heard about it too? Now, who paid for all the ads trying to convince us global warming was a hoax? Well, we all have, with every gallon we buy. I really don't want to fuel any fires here, the die is cast now. But I just like to keep the historical perspective too sometimes. I have no idea if the suit has merit, but I bet dollars to donuts they knew long before that kid defended nuclear power in a dorm that there were problems on the horizon.

on edit, I guess I should add that some may say the nuclear power industry was spreading the rumors of fossil fuel fed global warming to boost their chances at approval... which is why I usually prefer to follow the science
