Cabo Rico 38 Cutwater Fitting

Hi everyone,

Has anyone here replaced the Cutwater Fitting on a Cabo Rico 38 or had it done?

Thank you,

Gavin Smith

Re: Cabo Rico 38 Cutwater Fitting

I removed mine from my '87 and had it examined by a welder and a rigger and it was found to be in fine shape. I replaced the three backing plates with a single solid steel plate as the original plates looked to be a milder steel and had started to corrode.

I'm sure its wise to change it out completely and we may do so when we get a new cranse iron made.

I also use one of the inside bolts to attach my anchor chain to using a 1/2" nylon rope of such length that it just emerges from the chain locker if the chain were to be completely run out, so I can cut it from the deck in case of emergency.

zboss,

I don't see access to the backing plate, nuts, etc because the water tank is glassed in in this area, was this the case with your boat?

Thanks,

Gavin

Re: Cabo Rico 38 Cutwater Fitting

I just removed mine off my 1978 Tiburon 36 which is the same as the one on the 38 (same hull except for the 2ft extension for the aft cockpit). It is the original fitting.
I expected to find corrosion on the back but it was in excellent shape also. I will rebed it and move on. My backing plate was replaced by the PO and it is in front of the water tank (now holding tank) in the chain locker.

Edit: it is possible that the PO replaced mine when it was in New Zealand and re-rigged.
