I have just bought a 34 foot Gemini Pussy, Its not big enough to be called a Cat,

I am picking it up from Fiji and sailing threw Bundaberg and back to Yarringa,
Just out of Melbourne,

I am coming down early October, When are you leaving Cairns,

Its my first big boat that I have owned, Lots of little ones tho,

First day I bought my boat we took it from Vancouver BC to Friday Harbor WA. Spent the night and then went back to Canoe Cove BC. Checked in at customs and then took off toward a mooring buoy that was all covered in bird crap. Turns out it was a buoy that was broken and a warning buoy for a submerged rock wihich I promptly hit and then motored off of.

Not in Docklands the photo is in Cairns

We are leaving Cairns end of October and we will probably look for a berth as far south as we can get in two weeks. We are in no hurry so we will berth at Brisbane or Sydney and then spend Christmas holidays bringing to Melb.

Hope to park in the bay somewhere. But Hastings looks like an alternative. (Docklands to expensive IMO).

If you are around any of the East coast at the same time happy to have a beer and check out your new Cat.

Bought a 38" 1980 Hughes/North star S&S design. She's an oldy but hopefully gets us on the water and doing what we enjoy.

she'e sitting in Cairns and we are going to sail part way down the east coast as far as our work leave allow. From there we will get delivered to Melbourne. (we picked the good bit to sail).

Would like to hear about any first boat stories if you have one to share.

P.s. I'm a traditionalist, who cares how many meters it is from the equator to the north pole, I'm never going to measure it! Although, I will admit converting degrees C to degrees F so I know what the temperature REALLY is.

Not all first boats bring disaster, so chin up and enjoy. What is (or will be) her name? Ann and I will keep an eye out for you if you get as far south as the Sydney area. You might keep us all posted as to your progress (and adventures, too).

Where do you live in Melbourne Scott.
I was going for St Kilda, Swing mooring, Walk a mile after you find an expensive car park, What a hassle,

Yaringa, wet berth, walk 150 yards, car park free, Both take me an hour to get too,
Yaringa is about 7 miles north of the Hastings Marina.
Plus Cats are hard to park in Melbourne, They just wont take cats,
You wont have a problem with yours,

Permanent Mooring at Docklands, $15,000-00 P/Year so I have been told, Ouch,
I think Peir 31 is very exy too.

My wife and I started sailing this year on an American 22. Went out the first time with no experience in about 13 knots, had a blast. Mrs. Didn't like the heeling, started getting mad and sick, she turns to me and says, " how to we get the sails back down?" I say, " don't know for sure sweatheart". She didnt like that all, I got up on deck and pulled the sails down while the wind and waves pushed me aground. Motored back 3 miles fighting a broken rudder. LOVED every minute of it.
