It’s only here on the internet where you see an over-abundance of armchair experts posting endless tripe on stuff they apparently know nothing about. Those of us actually out cruising are all just one big happy family helping each other.

I hope to get together for a meet up in a few days with another CF member along with her two companions and three cats... looking forward to it.

interesting post... why not asking the mods to differentiate the real cruisers from the armchair type (I'm shamelessly one of the latter definition)…. a color star or sign before or after the name of the real cruisers would clarify the difference.... of course after verification by the mods that the real cruisers are really REAL!!

What is a real cruiser?

Is it the sailor that motors the ICW in the 1st or 2nd boat he's ever owned or hangs out in the med at anchor on a condo style sailboat big as a small ship?

Or is it the sailor that crosses oceans on a boat made to sail and not one with a living room similar to his home with all the modern conveniences?

I guess it depends on your point of view?

I started "cruising" in 1983. I would cruise my dinghy sailboat to an Island in a TVA Lake in Mississippi that I called Gilligan's Island. I gave up power boats after owning 7 of them by 1980. Dinghy sailboat pictured

Btw, shouldn't this thread be under the joke thread. Some of these guys totally hammer newbies every chance they get.

Enjoy it while it’s still cheap. If you end up buying a boat that will sound like a bargain

Re: Being more positive on CF

In every facet of human endeavor it is the rightful place of "newbies" to be the butt of jokes, the fall guys of older or more experienced workmates or companions, the acceptor of the blame, the coffee fetcher etc. This is the natural order of human existence and should not be toyed with.

Re: Being more positive on CF

I am extremely grateful for CF and to those who take the time and, often considerable, effort to answer questions.

I do think that it could be improved. For instance by the email posting New Topics including a search engine like summary of the issue addressed by each.

My only global problem is with the giggles that the name CF generates. In English, as against American, Cruisers translates as a gay web site. As in cruising. Having shown my wife what I am spending so much time browsing she is no longer concerned!

Re: Being more positive on CF

RaymondR how could I forget that. I remember as a keen boat building apprentice being sent to the local butcher for a sausage saw! The butcher kept me waiting for half an hour before sending me on my way with a big laugh.
I never thought of that meaning Alita49DS, I think my wife would prefer I was gay it’s got to be cheaper than owning a yacht surely?
Cheers
